Thank you for the information. I will try and find a repair shop within driving distance to avoid shipping. I hope to find a place that could do the work on a same day bases because I live far from any big city and would prefer to bring them home with me same day. Which leads to me asking approximate repair time to reform both 8's and all 4 12's ? Also my thoughts on pre purchase of surrounds on eBay was inclusive of having correct surrounds on hand to avoid any repair shop having to wait while they are on order. If you feel eBay surrounds are a correct replacment quality, I could order an extra set in case the installer needed a spare. I am curious also if specific surrounds are best on these speakers, or if any surround a shop may use is suitable. I do not want to compromise any sound quality. And I do not want to take the word of some unknown shop regarding this matter, so please let me know your recommendations. Will I damage the 8" midrange using it for a short time before getting the surrounds replaced?
Already Tried: Just getting started
Hi again Darius and welcome back to JustAnswer,Thank you for the new question, all the previous accepts and your patience. Should you still need assistance for information purposes only... Initially yes, the voice coil may and can rub itself raw against the magnet if the speaker(s) are used without the edge/surrounds replaced properly. This would result to the coil partially shorting. The replacement surrounds are almost always made from foam hence these would last roughly the same time. The trick really would be on the actualrepairs; the re-edging. Properly centered, the cone's push-pull action would be evenly spread hence the wear-n-tear would likewise be evely spread. Offhand, please click HERE to consult with and/or seek their services for the repairs. Please post back how you would want to approach this and/or should you need additional information.
Thank you for the info regarding transportation. I had not thought of the Fact they are designed to handle vibration. Thank you for the link to orange county repair shop. Unfortunately I would have to mail them there since removing them before returning home would not be possible. ( took 4 hours and $140 in packing material to prepare them for transport). Hopefully I can find a location within driving distance from where I live. If you have any resources near my address of Seguin Texas 78155 or in San Antonio Texas, that would be great. If I were to attempt the replacment myself and proceeded with extreme care, is it likely I may be able to do this? Or is it complicated and a bit risky to someone to attempt for the first time? Based on the shop you gave me the link to, the rates seem very reasonable. So I'm guessing a professional shop could complete all 6 hopefully in a day if I set an Appointment. If you were to take a guess, how many hours of work would a shop likely invest in replacing all 6 surrounds?
The only posted speaker repair shop is San Antonio Speaker Reconing. Please call (NNN) NNN-NNNN or click HERE.The actual repairs is not complicated. It simply requires lots-n-lots of patience and finger dexterity. The video tutorials HERE and HERE would shed additional insights. For somebody who has been doing this for some time, 30 minutes per speaker would be more than ample time hence 3 hours (or even less) would be safe bet.
