Hi Michelle. No one has responded to my question. I did reverse the cables and the same channel did not have sound. I was going to open the deck and see if there was two fuses, one for each channel. However the screws were very tight. Also looked at the 3 heads and they looked to be in alinement. Ok all for now Michelle.

Thank you and all the best for you

and yours in this new year.

Jim

As earlier asked, the model number please?

Customer replied 490 days and 18 hours ago.

Hi Benimur. Nak-Cass one Limited--I switched cables-was down on same channel--open unit replace 3 internal fuses--directed sunlite with mirror into cass well--looked good--nothing out of alinement--very gently rub 3 heads--alinement did not change--play ok worked--15 min later the channel went out. I have never done this 1 on 1 type of trouble shooting- so please be nice--HEHEHE--ok all kidding aside--- asked question 12/31---paid $12--Michell was moderating---today you came on board. Is the $12 stil in my acc? All this is amazing. Thank Benimur

On the $12, yes it is.

On the "...switched cables-was down on same channel...", do you mean RCA to RCA cables from the Nakamichi to the amp/receiver? If yes, switched as in replaced cable pair or switched as in swap plugs on one end only?

Customer replied 490 days and 17 hours ago.

Yes. RCA cable that runs from amp to cass deck. Also used headphones direct into cass deck. Same channel down.

I understand.

Offhand and based on the described symptoms, it would almost always be an internal hardware issue. Unfortunately, no quick/easy fix and neither is there a workaround. The unit would have to be opened up for voltage measurements, confirm fault and effect repairs. Possible suspects would be:

  • Tape / Source select circuitry (least likely);
  • Dolby decoder (likely);
  • playback EQ amp (most likely).

Are you then considering a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair approach? Do you have access to, familiar with and comfortable in the use of a multimeter and perhaps even a soldering iron/hot-air station?

Please post back how you would want to approach this and/or should you need additional information.
