Re: Vista-20se/20hwse; system indicates a communication failure in area 02 basement door. System also says a weak battery. Installed a new battery. Same thing. low or weak battery. Also communication failure and beeps once each minute. Had both batteries tested. Both OK. What do you suggest?
Already Tried: I bypassed the zone where communication failure shows. I tried to stop the beep and lo battery by shutting off and then starting up. No help. The alarm is located two hours south of where we live and is in our country house. Has worked well since installed in 1999. Became aware of the problem from a nabor who said the alsrm was going off for no reason.
Hello,Courtesy and respect for my time and efforts is greatly appreciated. Please work with me until I can either help you or opt-out. Thanks! Can you tell me exactly what the keypad says!
I assume you mean the display in "what the key pad says!"I can't exactly as the system is in our house on a farm two hours away. The beep is approx. one minute apart; occasionally spitting out "lo battery" in a synthesized voice. I've also seen this on the display. Can't recall failure message exactly. "comm. failure" or similar.I don't expect to return to the farm until next week. Is there a telephone number I can call? If not, I will have to contact you after I return from there.
Ok,Generally when the keypad displays a "com fail" it means that the system was not able to communicate with a central monitoring facility. If you get a sensor number along with a "low battery" indication then the battery in the sensor needs to be replaced. If you are just getting a "BAT" display then the main backup battery in the large metal box needs to be replaced. It is possible that sensor 2 has failed. Remember that you have to enter your user code and off to clear keypad trouble messsges.GlenGlen Moore41077.8087098727
As I stated earlier, the "voice" and display said and show low battery. You advised that low battery normally means a battery in the sensor. I'm not sure what or where the sensor is or where in the sensor a battery is located. Is the sensor what I call the motion detector? The main battery is what I replaced to no avail. Also, the alarm is not connected to a central place, it only goes to a whistle or noise maker outside. I ran the test; followed directions to cancel the bypass on zone 02 in the basement; set the alarm when I left but bypassed 02 first to keep the alarm from going off. Hope this makes things more clear to you by this electronic illiterate.
Is zone number 2 a wireless sensor?
I don't believe so. The system was installed when the house was built. It has operated perfectly for twelve years until now. I have not touched the motion detector in the ceiling. It still "twinkles" when the system is off when we are there.
In your initial post you had mentioned that the basement door was the problem not the motion. When you leave make sure or re-check that the basement door is closed all the way. Also make sure that the magnet and the switch are lining up correctly. Again, the comm fail is a failure to communicate with the central station, the alarm was probably monitored at one point in the past. To clear the trouble just enter you user code and press the off button. To permanently clear the problem would require getting into the main programming and deleting any central info that is on there.Glen
The alarm has never been connected/monitored to a central location. It has always been "in house" I did not intend to indicate the basement door was the problem. It is not to my knowledge. The door lines up perfectly, is always closed and locked when the alarm is set to "away" and we leave. I am not aware of any problem with the motion detector in the basement. My interpretation of your answer regarding the battery led me to believe there might be a battery in the motion detector. As you know I replaced the main battery inside the control box without change in the error messages. Is there a battery in the motion detector?I have repeatedly entered the code and pressed the off button without any result in clearing the trouble. Can you direct/instruct me on how delete the central programming indication, even tho there never has been any. Thanks
Wireless sensors usually start at zone 09 on that system. If zone #02 is your motion then I would try to see if it has batteries in it or if it is wireless. If zone 02 does turn out to be wireless then replace with like kind battery to see if that clears the fault. If there has never been any central connection, then no need to alter programming.GlenGlen Moore41079.7597815625
There are only three zones I believe, the basement entry door, upstairs entry door and the sliding door to the deck. I cannot imagine the system using wireless detectors when it was installed before the walls were covered; each of two floors, basement walk-out and upstairs, only measure about 1000 sq. ft. each. I am returning to the farm next week. If you have any further comment or instructions, please let me know before then. If not,I will be back in touch with you about the 29th or so of June. Thanks for your prompt replies so far!
Sounds good!Lets chat when you are onsite.Glen
There is no way to chat by computer at the farm. I'd have to look for wifi in town, about 30" away. I believe I noticed a telephone # XXXXX one of the notification emails. I will try this or have to wait 'till I return. Thanks again for your effort to help.
Relist: Answer quality. It took too many questions and answers. It seemed your expert did not ask the right questions based on my answers. I thought the questions were inadequate and made me think that he didn't base his comments based on what I said. He appeared to drag the thing on without paying enough attention.
Hi, I’m a moderator for this topic and I wonder whether you’re still waiting for an answer. If you are, please let me know and I will do my best to find a Professional to assist you right away. If not, feel free to let me know and I will cancel this question for you. Thank you!
Sorry for the delay, thought I was through. I understand now that I have a seven day subscription starting 6/24. I am planning to travel to the farm on Monday, 6/25, make careful note as well as I can of the whole system and trouble and recontact Just Answer. I understand from the email that I'll have to start over as its not retroactive. Hopefully, I'll have better information for better questions and better answers. Do you have any comment?
HiTake special note of all the error messages (the exact wording) and check all fuses while there...Also open all sensors and check for batteries inside...Then come back and ask as a new question... Make sure you don't pay a second time... You should be able to ask a second question without paying again...
I must leave my house shortly for an appointment. Here's the best I know in the meantime. I went to the farm especially to check the system Monday. The sensors are both DT6360STC. There are five(?) wires leaving the control box, two of which are marked to the sensors. I did not open the sensors to check for batteries because of the wires because, I feel certain, the system is not wireless, but mostly I was hesitant, not being sure how to do it. I know nothing about these things. I am trying to get in touch with the person who installed the system. We are former associates. He has moved. About:comm.failure and low battery; I still get the "communications failure" and synthesized low battery voice. The beep still sounds about a minute apart. This time, I didn't see low battery displayed. Following directions in the manual, I was still unable to correct these by following the directions. I set the by-pass zone 2 when I left. My neighbor says he has not heard the alarm since doing this.
HiYou have left me negative feedback which counts against me on this site...Every negative you give on every answer given counts against the expert and can have them dismissed from the site if they accrue too many, understandably I am reluctant to work further on this issue if every communication results in a negative whilst we try to gather the information needed to get a positive result... If you would like to work with me then please change the feedback to a neutral one (the middle rating)and I will be happy to reply, alternatively I can just request a refund for you and have the question closed...
Actually, I should have given a neutral the last time. You see, I traveled four hours and spent a day trying to assist for the help. When I left, I was not asked to check for the batteries or get the exact wording for my problems. Perhaps we can start over when I return later this pm.nIn the meantime, my manners on reflection appreciate a new voice, so pls make it a neutral.
Ok if you rate my next Answer as neutral I can work with you on this...So to summarise... You are going to get the exact wording and check for batteries in the sensors...It wouldn't hurt to do a power down reset (Unplug from power and remove battery, wait ten seconds and repower) you will have to reset the time.. Check all fuses whilst you have it depowered and replace any that are blown...Check all sensors (while you have the cover off) for any spider etc inside, check the mounting and positioning of any reed switches. You said you already replaced the main battery, where did you get this from (is it a new battery)I can await your reply on your return... If my suggestions are successful you can change the feedback to a positive...
This will require me to again travel 2 hours to the farm which I will do the first weekend of July, just over a week away, returning early in that week following. I am unable to do this earlier, but it will be as planned anyway so not an extra trip, only a delay. Planning to follow your leads, I will:I will power down the unit. The only fuses I know of are in the main electrical box - circuit breakers, all ok. Have not seen any obvious fuses in the control box. I will look however.I will get exact wording. Will (try to) get the sensor coves off, check for spiders, etc. Don't know what a reed switch is. WHAT IS IT?? Will check to see if there are batteries. As I've indicated before, the replacement battery was new. Afterward, both were tested good. both equal. 12v+fractional. New battery left in place.
HiYou have given me a second negative.... That's now two for this question... You need to give me one of the top three ratings otherwise it is counted as a negative... Unless you now give me at least a neutral this will count against me permanently, I am starting to wish I never tried to jump in and help... If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don’t hesitate to ask! Please remember to only rate my answer when you are 100% satisfied. IF you feel the need to click either "Helped a little" or "I expected more", please stop and reply to me via the REPLY or CONTINUE CONVERSATION button with the issue you have. I will be happy to continue further and do everything I can to provide you with the service you seek.
You seem to be more interested getting a good rating and getting paid. Can't blame you for that, however I have made a trip of two hundred miles, culminating in a whole day. When I returned with what I thought answered the questions at least to my ability, I now have received more questions which calls for another trip (I'd planned to go anyway) that delays bringing my problem to a logical end and some degree of satisfaction. Please wait until the next week end is over and I've returned. In the meantime, perhaps you can answer my question as to what a "reed switch" is? I sincerely XXXXX XXXXX intend to be insulting by the foregoing.
Based on the faces presented., I'm unable to offer an opinion. I think I would just be neutral
I understand you feel you are rating us as neutral but in fact you have rated me twice as offering "Poor Service" which I feel is unfair.... I have passed the question over to the site moderators to look at and discuss with you. No other expert will touch this question now (4 bad ratings on it already) so if the ratings can't be sorted out they will issue you a refund and close the question...
I don't see any need to deal with you further from my standpoint. If you speak for the company, I would just prefer to have a refund issued and the question closed in view of our discussion.
I put through a refund request for you before but the site moderator refused to give you one... I can't now put one through to you, I suggest you go to http://www.justanswer.com/refund/refund-1-2/refund.aspxFollow the required steps to obtain one... I am not an employee of Justanswer and for myself get nothing for trying to assist you, I apologize that the sites confusing rating system has caused this situation...
Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX both of us have wasted our time.
It would help, if you get the opportunity to say why you want to refund, to say the confusing rating system.... Good luck...
Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX I tried to the address you set forth. Google was unable to connect.??
