Hi, you most certainly do want to replace 25 year old smoke detectors. Not only are the new ones more technologically more advanced and dependable but also last longer on a battery. I'm not sure I could trust a 25 year old detector to come through for me when we need it most. I say, make SURE your family is protected and update your smoke detectors immediately!
Didn't pay $12 to learn the obvious. The question is what to replace it with?

HiThat model is so old I can't confirm whether they are 2 wire or 4 wire.... Can you check how many wires are connected to the unit and if possible confirm it is a 12volt detector (one 12volt battery in the control box)...
