Customer Question

The buttons on my Ademco pad sometimes don't clck when pressed. How do I take the cover off to see if cleaning the contacts could solve this problem. Thanks.

Hello,

Courtesy and respect for my time and efforts is greatly appreciated. Please work with me until I can either help you or opt-out. Thanks!

This is usually not the best thing to try. Once you start pulling the keypad appart you can cause more problems that it is worth. You can find new ones on ebay cheap and save yourself a lot of time and hassel.

How much, approximately, a pad from e-bay will cost, and how do I take out the old pad and instal the new pad?

If you can find the model on the keypad (inside) or take a picture and post it in your response I can tell you. But a round figure would be about $40-50.

Glenn,

Please anwer :

1) how do I take out the old pad and instal the new pad?

2) in your previous reply, "6148, 6150 or 6160 (two line alpha numeric) will work. there are plenty on ebay", what is meant by " (two line alpha numeric) ". What query should I use so I get the right pad.

You take the keypad off the wall by removing the front cover. There are two little tabs under the keypad that need to be pressed in and the pull the cover from the bottom out. Then you will be left with the back plate with four screws. There are four wires attached to the back that you will need to remove and replace when you get your new one. Becareful not to short out the wires when you remove them. There will be some info on the back of the plate or on the inside of the keypad. Use the model number for your query. Look on ebay and use "6148 keypad" as a search if you have a 6148 existing. If it says 6150, then use "6150 keypad" as a search and so on. The 6160 keypad is just a higher end keypad that has a two line custom english display, the others are fixed display. If your system is a wireless system or has wireless sensors then you will need the RF version of any of those keypads if in fact you remove the keypad and find that what you have is a 6150RF model then you will need to replace it with a like kind.

H Glenn,

Thanks for the followup e-mail.

I am back on this issue after my travel. I found the following information on the back of the security pad: SA 6128AS B GO20 W159550.

1) which pad should I order?
2) Will I need a code? If yes, where do I get the code?

Will appreciate your guidance, so I may replace the old pad with a new one after all.Thanks.

Regards
Kewal

I would just order the 6148 keypad. When you get it, it will need to be addressed. Come back to me after you receive it and I will walk you through that part.

Customer replied335 days and 21 hours ago.

Hi Glenn,

I just recieved the 6148 Ademco keypad.

1) As I understand the setup instructions, I'll rmove the four color coded wires from the old pad and put'em on the new control panel with a very small screw driver . Do I need to do any thing else e.g. change any code ot keypad address? or go with the default 31 which is what I have with the other two Ademco pads.?

2) Currently, I press #2 to arm when "away", #3 to "stay" and 56781 to disarm. The instructions which came with the order are confusing ( They say "Press code + 2 when away)..
I would obviousely like to continue to use #2, #3 and 56781 on all three Ademco pads I have in my house, as before. How do I do this?.

Will appreciate response before I instal the new key pad.

Thanks.
Kewal

All the functions will be the same as you have now. Just verify that the address of the old keypad is 31. Press the 1 & 3 buttons at the same time on the old keypad and the current address will be displayed. Set the new keypad for the same address if different from 31.GlenGlen Moore41078.1894267014

Glen,

Just installed the Ademco 6148 key pad. It's working fine. Feels good, thanks to you!

Last question: How do I change the old disarm sequence to a new one?

Kewal

Enter current master code (user 02) then press the "code" button. Enter 02 then enter your new four digit code (twice) after which you will hear a single beep if the system accepted the new code.
