I have a liftmaster 1280r that will not open, I get 5 light

Customer Question

I have a liftmaster 1280r that will not open, I get 5 light flashes on the diagnostic code and have replaced the capacitor, motor, RPM sensor, and still will not operate. I am thinking that the only thing left to do is replace the logic board. do you have any other suggestions?
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?
Customer: It stopped working about a month ago
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: I have been, the logic board looks fairly easy to replace, if that is what is the problem.
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: not that i can think of.

The five flashes is the code for
motor overload.
Expert:  Machinc replied 4 months ago.
This does not necessarily mean the motor is the problem , just that it is having difficulty or is unable to turn to lift the door.

Things to check:
1: any obstruction of the roller guides
2: loose screws or mounts around motor or drive .
3: watch motor as it tries to operate : look and listen for odd movement or binding of parts.
4: check the "trolley" it should move smoothly and have no loose or missing screws or parts

Check page 5 for details of the trolley and roller/s
Expert:  Machinc replied 4 months ago.
NOTE: the belt on the trolley goes around two pulleys not rollers
The term rollers refers to the wheel like pieces attached to the door and following the track.
Expert:  Machinc replied 4 months ago.
The trolley is the piece with the pull rope for manual operation.

While it is possible for the motor to fail it is not usually the problem.
After all moving parts on the belt and door have been verified as working properly the motor can be tested by disconnecting the belt and running the motor .
It should operate smoothly .
If it operates erratically and gets
hot it is most likely bad.

The control board is a final suspect for the problem.
Expert:  Machinc replied 4 months ago.
If you are at the stage where you suspect the motor or control board and are still not sure the motor is good it may be best to call a repair service at this point
for a second opinion.
These two parts can be too expensive to replace if you are not sure they are bad.
Expert:  Machinc replied 4 months ago.
NOTE: the door should operate smoothly when pulled manually .
If not this is your first clue of an alingment or hardware problem.

Roller and track
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
the door operates smoothly on the track but the motor will not turn. I have replaced the motor, capacitor, and the RPM sensor. I should have checked the track and made sure the belt turned free. I will do that in the morning and get back to you and let know if it is bound up.
