Your opener is one of the very early models.

If you look at your wall control, it should be different than any others you have seen, as long as nobody has changed it out over time.

Removing the cover off the wall control, you will access the small switches inside.

The wall control is also the receiver for a remote.

Not sure if even those universal remotes will activate the old openers, but get the switches set and hopefully it will.

See the picture below of the original wall control that was installed, it had the receiver and antenna unit for the remote

I do not remember how many switches that one had, so I would compare to the remotes instructions for similar models with the same quantity.
