Hello. Welcome to Just Answer.
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
Most garage door openers have settings on them for the force the opener exerts during travel each direction.

These are known as the UP Force and DOWN Force adjustments.
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
They are usually knobs that you can turn. There is typically a sticker by each knob, with an arrow indicating direction, and the letters "kG".
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
If you can find the knob to adjust the UP Force, I would increase it slightly, and test the door. If necessary, keep adjusting it slightly and checking the door, until it doesn't seem to strain anymore.

If you look at this page, you'll see photos of the knobs.

already tried that . no difference
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
Did you end up maxing out the up force adjustment knob?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
yes

My next thought is a faulty spring. But if the door travels freely when not connected to the opener, the springs would have to be intact.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
springs were just replaced. door opens freely by hand
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
In that case, it has to be a problem with the opener. How old is it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
20 years old. Thanks but just refund the deposit. I will buy a new one
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
I will put in the refund request for you.

thanks anyway

after adjusting the knobs now the door does not open all the way. So now I have 2 problems one the motor strains and 2 door does not open all the way.I put 50lb springs on. can they be two big for the door? should they be exactly the sam e tension?
Expert:  Jason replied 1 year ago.
If the door isn't traveling the entire distance to fully open, it sounds like the travel limit knob may be out of adjustment. This should be a separate adjustment knob than the travel force knobs.
