Customer Question

I have a liftmaster on my house. After a storm in which lightning hit near the house, the remotes no longer work and I can't get it to program. The led comes on on the unit when the smart button is pressed but it doesn't set remotes. Help?

The circuit board in this units are highly
Sensitive to lightning damage.
The damage can be subtle or take out
the whole board. Sometimes you can smell
It or you can see a gray or black spot on the board.
Some diodes will blow their top off leaving
what looks like an open can.
If this damaged exists Replacing the circuit board is the only fix .
If you need me to I can help you go through
the flow chart in your manual to make sure this is the
problem.

First take the batteries out of both remotes and keep them out. Before you resit it . unplug the main, and wait 30 seconds and replug it in before resitting it.reset the main lift master. Make sure the screen clears. And please make sure you hold down the lift master reset bottom for 10 seconds. Then try it with out the hand remotes. Before or during a power outage it gives a surge. So it will knock out your main not your remotes. Also look at you electrical panel and see if it triggered a circuit to the off position.
See if this clears the screen and restarts the lift master. If it does then replace the batteries in the remotes and try them separately. Let me know if that work Also Let me know what happens.

Power storms normally trigger the intake of the electric and it just needs to be reset. There should be no burn marks on your circuit board from a lighting storm?

it should not knock out your remotes. Now if your remotes broke with out a power storm that is a different story.

Ithe information I have given about lighting is correct.Circuit boards can suffer from indirect hits .That is not the only possibility but it is a very possible one since you have already worked with your remotes if resets don't clear the problemI would suspect the circuit board,Let me know how it goes.David Machado.
