My front door has brass kickplates which are badly tarnished.

Resolved Question:

My front door has brass kickplates which are badly tarnished. Brass polish made them worse. Is there a drill attachment and compound I can use to restore the finish or is it more likely that the kickplates are plated and not solid, in which case I should replace them with higher quality plates.

Hello, and thanks for your question! My name is XXXXX XXXXX I am happy to assist you today!!

Charles :

You are correct in your idea that they are actually plated

Charles :

Most kick plates are actually plated because if they were actually solid brass they would be to soft and would become damaged easy. So they electroplate a cheaper sheet metal in brass that is only a few microns in thickness.

Charles :

Your best bet will be to replace them if you want that shine back.
