Customer Question

Just had a fellow install a new door knob and dead bolt to our exterior door. Also added weather stripping to help keep the weather out. Now the door is difficult to close and will even pop open from the striker plate. Any suggestions on a fix?

The first thing I would look at is the weather strip.
If it is the kind that just tucks in a round the door ( that would be one at the top and Ono on each side)
It could be two thick or not tucked in all the way
You can pull the strips back out one at a time and see if removing one solves the problem.
If that is the case and it is properly tucked in then a thinner weather strip is needed.

If it is a screw on or nail on type of weather closing the door and close observation may show it is too close to the door. With the door closed you should be able to find a spot where it is out of line.
Remove a couple of screws or nails and loosen the strips contact with the door.

If it is just a strip on the bottom use the same procedure. It is usually too thick or secured to hard against the gap.
