I purchased a metal fire pit, am I supposed to put sand around it? Someone mentioned fireproof bricks? What is the safest?

Either option is safe. If you're going to put this in the ground then sand is probably better. It will conform to the shape of the unit and will drain water away quickly. Sand will also stand up better to the elements than fire brick

I dont plan on putting it in the ground. Can I set it on brick and then surround it with sand or is that over doing it? I know its so simple, but I really dont know whats best.

Just set it on brick. Not fire brick. Fire brick won't stand up to the weather. You don't need to surrond it with sand
