Ihave a Whirlpool dishwasher that I really need to find out a few things about and I need to know how to go about it.Model #GU1500XTLQ2 SN FP3205785 Type 575-0. How do I test the heating elament and does the element heat only for drying or does it heat the water up too? The dishes are not getting clean enough and often there is soap still on dishes wether I use liq. or powder.
Already Tried: I have tried to contact whirlpool but had no luck.

You can test the heater for continuity with a voltmeter, but wash-ability is a tricky thing with dishwashers now days, especially with the lack of phosphates in the new detergents leaving white residue on dishware. You need to determine first if you don't have a mechanical problem with the wash system. Your dishwasher has a filter system that can get clogged up and the wash arms will not turn properly and you will not get enough water pressure to the wash arms. You need to fill the dishwasher up and get to the wash cycle. Make sure there is enough water to reach the heating element on the bottom. Then open the door and make a note where the wash arms upper and lower are sitting. Then close the door and allow it to start up and run for 5-7 sec. Open door and see if the wash arms have moved. If they are not turning then you will need to take the pump apart and clean the filter.HERE IS A VIDEOhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRCCrEwrst8Here is some info on the new detergents alsohttp://www.appliancerepairlesson.com/2011/02/24/dishwasher-is-no-longer-cleaning-film-and-debris-are-left-on-dishes/If you find that detergent is the issue I would suggest that you try a product called Finish Quantum and if you have hard water add another product called LEMI-SHINE http://www.lemishine.com/
