There are several holes in my yard about 3 -4 inches in diameter

Resolved Question:

There are several holes in my yard about 3 -4 inches in diameter where runoff water seems to be draining. I suspect this was caused by a new fence which impeded water drainage for a few years before we fixed it.

I am trying to fill in these holes. Should I use sand or top soil or maybe concrete?

Any advice on what to do about these holes?

jerry : Welcome to JA!
jerry : how deep?
Customer:

I can't tell. I suspect they go pretty deep

Customer:

I tried pouring a 5 gallon bucket of water down the largest hole and it didn't fill up

jerry : I
jerry : i would try crushed rock first before doing concrete.
jerry : once you get it within 6-8 inches from the surface then you could do topsoil.
Customer:

do i need to be concerned about a hole that never seems to fill up?

jerry : make sure you tamp it every few inches so it doesnt settle as much
jerry : Well. im sure youve heard of sink holes from city water main breaks etc. so yes you should keep an eye on it.
Customer:

ok
