HOW DO YOU REFINISH 60 YEAR OLD DARKEN KNOTTY PINE WALLS

THE KNOTTY PINE WALLS ARE IN A 60 YEAR OLD COTTAGE.THE WALLS I BELIEVE HAVE A LIQUIR FINISH .THE MAY ALSO HAVE BEEN STAINED .THE WALL ARE VERY DARK.I CAN REMOVE THE FINISH WITH DENATURED ALCOHOL,HOWEVER IT TOOK 10 MIMUTES TO DO A PIECE 6IN BY 2FT. IS THERE A BETTER WAY

Lacquer thinner will remove the finish by brushing it on and letting it set for about ten to fifteen minutes then wiping it down with a rag. This may take more than one application. Some of the darkness of the wood can be from the lacquer its self so you will not know for sure about the darkness until this process is complete.
