Customer Question

Hi I had a high risk exposure about 23 days ago. I started showing symptoms from day 11.
- I know symptoms are notorious and unreliable.
there is a free clinic near my place and they use ALLERE DETERMINE 4TH GENERATION RAPID
AG/AB blood test
How accurate do you think the result would be if I get tested with that at day 24-25?

Hello,

Basically in most cases of HIV, detectable antibodies are developed within 2 to 8 weeks (the average is 25 days).

If it is Alere Determine HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab Combo test that detects both HIV-1/2 antibodies and the HIV-1 p24 antigen, which can appear just 12-26 days after infection.

HIV-1/2 antibodies first appear significantly later – 20 to 45 days after infection.

The rapid tests for HIV antibodies are very accurate with a sensitivity and specificity of 99.6 - 99.9%.

However it's good to have retest after 3 months also to get 100% conclusive.
