MY female partner is hiv positive , she has an undectectable viral count. IS there a lower percentage of infection having intercourse witout a condom -?
With a known HIV patient then we cannot say that there is zero risk with certainty although there was a Swiss study that shown a non transmission risk under very specific circumstances. The infected partner has to be on antiviral medication, they have to have undetectable Load for at least six months and they needed to have no sexually transmitted infections. Before you consider having unprotected intercourse you need to have had a conversation with her doctor as a couple, and be aware that this was only one report and that at the moment we consider all patients with a diagnosis of HIV as a potential to transmit to partners. Incidentally we measure load in blood stream, so load may be different in vaginal fluid.
