Why is it freezing up the top of compressor the accumulator

This answer was rated:

Why is it freezing up the top of compressor the accumulator tank and the vibrasorber suction side, it only does this in defrost mode / heat mode, i also rebuilt the 3 way valve but that didn't work still doing the same thing, i also noticed that the ETV is only opening to 300 to 402 when it should be 800 fully open, my thermo king SB200 BOM # 918590

Hi I'm Wayne

I will help you with this

Thank you for requesting me

What you are describing is the Expansion valve is faulty

Sorry for the delay i had to go to town, Thanks Wayne i will try this, do you know if i can rebuild the expansion valve or do i need to buy a new one? is the expansion valve located on top left of the evaporator coil and do i have to solder it in if i buy a new one?
PS i will leave you a 5 star like i left you before when i get this fixed so you can get paid.
Vince

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
If the expansion valve is bad would I still be getting a pressure gauge reading on the lowside/ suction side?

Morning

Yes it would

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
if the expansion valve is bad that would make the ETV not open all the way? I have to drive 80 miles to the nearest Thermo king dealer to get the expansion valve

HI

yes reason being it is flooding the

condenser

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is there any where else I can get a expansion valve other then Thermo king? They want $236.00 and also what kind of solder and stuff I need to install it?

HI

Yes you can buy on line

and need silver solder to install it

Wayne I haven't forgot about you, I installed the expansion valve and then I checked for leaks and I found a leak in the gasket on the 3 way valve, I had to order the parts they should be in today, i am a man of my word and i will make sure you get paid with a 5 star rating, im keeping this open until i make sure i don't need you again after i get done.Vince

Thank you that is fine

Wayne

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Wayne I've had to chase down a freon leak and fix that, put a water pump on, I'm pulling a vac on it now, I should have freon back in a few hours, I will update date when I get it running to see if the expansion valve worked.
VinceVince

OK,

Thank you

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Wayne it's doing the same thing, I put a new expansion valve in, ETV only going up to 307

HI

Sorry for the delay

you did proper evacuate, did drier change ,

what is your pressures now,

Discharge and suction

also at the 3 way valve , feeling pipes , do you get Hot, Hot, Not ??

starting from front , or do you get Not. Not , Hot

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Hold on I got to go back out there and start it back up, yes it has a new drier and I did a evacuation 7 Hours
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Also has a new 3 way valve I put in

OK,

I will wait for you

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I'm letting it climb all it can before I give you the pressures
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Suction 40.8
Dis.A 37.3
ETV.P 306

Hi

Let it run in cool , for another 5 -10 minutes

then tell me

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
3 way valve all 3 pipes are HOT HOT HOT
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I got it set on 10 degrees,

Thank you for that

you said this is a NEW 3 WAY , not rebuild ??

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
It was doing the same thing before I put the rebuild kit in the 3 way valve, it heats like it should when I set it to heat 75 degrees

Thank you for that

if all 3 pipes are HOT at 3 way

that 3 way is bypassing internally

they can not be all 3 HOT, that is the only thing that will cause that

Wayne

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Why is the ETV not opening up to 800
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Suction 41.9
Dis.a 24.7
ETV.P 379

Hi

Reason being the 3 way is not putting the pressure

when shifting

I know you want to blame the throttling valve, so do I

but never ,ever al l 3 pipes hot at 3 way valve

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Yeah your right I been thinking it's the ETV, so what do I need to fix now

Hi

Just seen your message of pressures

that is equalizing , pressures

that says , 3 way or faulty compressor valve plates

I say # way valve

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I put a aftermarket 3 way rebuild kit in it,

HI

I do not trust after market 3 ways, had many issues with them

I worked at TK and on them for 34 + years

I took short cuts, on compressor and engine parts

only to come back and bit me in the A$$

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
what if it's the compressor valve plates how could I check that to rule that out

Hi

Sorry for delay

I normally go off line at 7:00

to check valve plates

remove heads , remove valve plates , upside down, fill with mineral spirits

no leaks at all after 20 minutes

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
If I do that don't I have to shut off freon to compressor

HI

Yes you do a low side pump down

unit running slow close the suction service valve

when job is completed , evacuate the the compressor for 20 min

I am calling it a night ,

we can talk in Morning

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok thanks I'm done to

talk in morning

Hi also after the pump down, low side,

close the discharge valve also when unit is off

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Good morning Wayne
I did not work on it since we talked last time, I will work on it Monday when I can get some parts, Thermo king is closed on Sat Sunday.
Vince

Morning

Yes I just wanted to be sure you knew to close

high side after low side pump down, unit off

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
No I didn't know, I don't know how to make unit run slow other then set temp at current box temp, tell me exactly how to do the lowside compressor pump down

Hi

run unit in low speed cool

front seat (close) the suction valve

when you are in a 20" vacuum, shut the unit off

then front seat the discharge valve (close)

you will have a little bit of pressure in the compressor

just bleed it off

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
How do I make unit run in low speed cool only?

set the thermostat to to 10 degree

remove the rod to inj pump

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok thanks I should have thought of that.

Welcome

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I think what I'm going to do is just do both rebuild 3 way valve and put all 4 valve plates in compressor tomorrow with oem Thermo king parts only and that should hopefully fix my problem, I have some valve plates in a extra x430LS Compressor in my garage I would need to check them with mineral spirits, I assume the way you told me to check them is watching for leaks around valve is what I'm looking for

HI

Yes you have it all correct

no leakage, except around the 4 screws , that is normal and does not matter

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok thanks, ***** *****'re done I'm going to double the amount I'm paying you as a tip, I assume you will get all of the tip

HI

That is very kind of you

tip I receive 75%, question I get 50%

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Well I really appreciate the help, I got to get this fixed, I enjoy working on it and your teaching me a trade that also saves me a lot of money from getting ripped off at Thermo king dealers, I been a certified auto Mechanic most of my life until I got in to trucking as a owner operator, I have a family of five to support and I'm the only one that works, so the money I save from Thermo king dealers can pay bills and buy food for my family

You are more then welcome

I am happy to help truckers,

My Father was a driver for 40+ years

and my brother driver for 26 years

I told them you guys dive them I will fix them,

No Patients for traffic

So truck Mechanic all my life and reefer man

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I will call Thermo king tomorrow morning hopefully they will have these parts, I'm going out now to pull out valve plates on the compressor in garage and check them to see if there good, that will save me a bunch if they are, all I would need is the 4 valve plate orings /head and manifold/ gaskets/ head bolt orings I think that's it

OK

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Well 3 out of 4 valve plates are leaking on this compressor in garage, is there a way to get them to seal again? Or just buy new ones? I need to check the ones on my unit to

Hi

That is not good,

there is no way to reseal them

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
ok thanks, ***** ***** would ask, I didn't think so, im going out now to work on my unit talk to you later.

welcome

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Well I got my parts now, I'm going to start on it since I got a brake from the rain, does the valve plate o rings need refrigeration oil on them before I put the valve plates on them?

HI

if you have any

if not dry

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok thanks
I had to quit working on it and put the head and manifold back on, it started pouring down the rain again.

OK

Rain is the worst enemy

make sure to do a good evacuate maybe 90 min ,

it will smoke ,but that is good

that is moisture boiling out

Wayne

PS :: I go for eye surgery tomorrow, so it will be hit and miss for me

not sure how I will see

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Wayne no problem if I don't talk to you tomorrow, you got to take care of your self
I'm waiting again for break in rain if I get one, if not I will try tomorrow, I'm putting all oem 4 new valve plates and 3 way valve rebuild kit in, hopefully this will fix it along with expansion valve and drier I already put in, the unit is a 2002 SB200 so putting new parts in it sure don't hurt nothing being 14 years old.

OK

We will talk maybe tomorrow

Where do you live with all that Rain ??

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I managed to get the valve plates in, then I was putting in the 3 way valve and it started raining again, so had to put tarp over trailer and unit and came in to get dried off, I live in Dobson NC, rain is suppose to move out by tomorrow

Morning Vince

OK working with 1 eye, not to bad

you guys need a break from that rain

let me know, as you go along any questions

Wayne

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Good Morning Wayne,
I just got back went and bought me a larger nitrogen bottle, all 4 valve plates were leaking put new ones in, I had a leak on one compressor head, I checked it and its warped so im putting on another head now, I also installed the thermo king 3 way valve rebuild kit, I compared the aftermarket 3 way valve against the thermo king 3 way and the seal on the aftermarket was flat across the rubber and the thermo king 3 way was beveled, I think that was my problem why all pipes were hot, you were right, I will update you after while.
Vince

HI Vince

well I think we are seeing the end of this tunnel

you were blessed with multiple issues

keep me posted

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Forgot to ask when your checking for leaks how much nitrogen pressure did you use? Or What's the max pressure can I put in ?

Hi

We ran around 200 lbs

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok thanks

welcome

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I got everything done now and all leaks fixed that I could find, I'm pulling a vac on it until after 5 pm est , then I will put freon back in and check it out and see if that fixed the problem, I will update you later after I get it running

That sounds good my friend

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Well I'm having trouble getting it to suck all the freon in, the recovery tank has heavy frost on 1/4 way up on the bottom of tank , it sucked in almost 10 pds of freon and stopped, it's like the recovery tank is freezing up, it did this last time I put freon in it and after it sit a while it sucked the rest in, I have the recovery tank turned upside down sucking from the liquid side

HI

OK what freon you using R404A or R402B

but when you say recovery tank , do you mean the Receiver tank

with the sight glass , if so that is saying it is flooding with freon

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
No I mean the freon recovery tank I'm sucking freon out of and I'm using R404a
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I just got to thinking before I recovered the freon out of this unit, was I supposed to pull a vacuum on the freon recovery tank before I recovered the freon, I'm talking about the tank you recover the freon in to

HI

1st question

if it was bone dry , YES, if not no

2nd question

That is normal for that to happen,

we put it in a bucket of warm water 100 degree

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
it was bone dry

as long as there was no AIR ans valve open

you are good

If I miss spell words, forgive me, 1 eye

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I think it had air in the tank, the ETV is not working like it did the other day, I got the freon finally in it and I was watching the freon ball it was at the top and all of the sudden it dropped to the bottom, I looked at ETV and it was at 98 and only been running 20 minutes
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
No problem I know what your talking about
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I pulled all the freon out and I'm pulling a vac on it now, I'm going to buy a fresh jug of freon tomorrow morning, live and learn my mistakes.

OK

WAIT !!!

How you pulling freon out ??

HI

You still there ??

going off line in 10 Min

Wayne

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Yep I'm here
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Pulling it putting it in the recovery jug
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Same jug that has air in it, it holds 47 pds, I have a Appion G5 twin recovery machine , I hooked to compressor suction side blue and high side red to gauges, then I take center yellow hose from gauges to blue side in of Appion, then red side out on Appion to red liquid side of recovery jug

HI

Just checked back in

if you are using a recovery machine

that automatically purgers the air out

you do not need new

freon

Hi

I hope you see this last note,

I have to go off line, eye sore , need drops and lay down

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Well I don't use the recovery machine when im putting it back in the unit, didn't know I needed to, I just hook it straight from freon jug to suction side of compressor and close the high pressure side of compressor and start the unit once the freon stops going in out of the jug and let the compressor suck the rest of it in

Hi

OK it is contaminated

in the future use recover machine, separates air and moisture

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
That is what I thought I done, live and learn by my mistakes
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Wayne I still got the same problem I started with, I pulled a vac on it for 5 hours, put new freon in useing the recovery machine, it's cooling just fine, it's still freezing up the top of compressor the accumulator tank and pipe the vibrasorber suction side, it's still doing it in defrost mode / heat mode

Hi

Well this is not good , i am going to dig in my book

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
COIL 9.7 F DIS.A 7.0 F BOX TEMP 18.5 F ETV.P 800 DIS.P 346.5 SUC.P 34.3

All pressures look good except for discharge

it is high should b around 290 to 315

if you do a self check do you get any codes

read this page 62

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I will do a pretrip I guess that's the same thing as a self check, condenser has been cleaned so I don't understand why high discharge
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
what do I need to do to figure out why the dis.p is high
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
It passed the pretrip

Hi

Pre trip passed

This is R 404a correct

every thing you did should not have high Head pressure

unless the spring in the Throttling valve is broken

rare ,but seen it before

I wish I was there , this is a good puzzle

now this only happens in the heat mode correct

in the cold mode works perfect ??, brings temp down

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Yep 404a
Yes this only happens in heat mode,
Box temp was 5 degrees a few minutes ago, cooling perfect
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Walking back down, give pressures again and I will check heat mode
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
If the spring is broke in the throttling valve would it still open to 800?

HI

Cooling is perfect , Now I have to say , throttling valve is NOT the Issue

Pressures in heat mode 80+95 Lbs low side and 115 to 175 high side

cool mode 35 to 52 lbs low side ,High side is 290-315 Lbs

there is another component can cause this Condenser check valve

find this check valve it is a y shape knob, with a nut/cap on it

in heat , feel the pipe before and after

before should be hot, after just warm

Customer: replied 3 months ago.

Hi

Check that condenser check valve

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok I will see if I can find it, do know about where it's at on this sb200

Hi It will be a long copper line from 3 wat to the condenser

about 1/2 way up to condenser

about 5/8 dia

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok I will find it when it let's up raining, it's raining hard and tornado warning in my area

OMG

How much rain can you guys handle

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
yeah im fed up with the rain, we didn't have any rain hardly for months now its every day scattered storms.rains a while then quits, im going back down there to find that valve its about to quit raining again

HI

I am going off line for th e night

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
There is no condenser check valve, from 3 way valve up to condenser there is not one on any of those copper pipes, from condenser there is a copper pipe going to 3 way but there are no valves between condenser and 3 way, there are only a pilot solenoid and that other solenoid that the hot gas runs threw
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
a Transducer is on 5/8 copper pipe, the 1/4 inch pipes had the pilot solenoid and the hot gas solenoid, other copper pipes leading in and out of the receiver tank had check valves

Hi Vince

ther e is a check valve some where

I am at a lost now, I hate to say it

1st time in 34+ years

the only thing that bothers me is issue in heat only

that says throttling valve, but other hand works perfect in cool

as much as I hate to say this , I say Uncle

I am not sure what it is , again , I wish I was there

I will still ponder on this , and call a few old buddies

Wayne

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
My thermo king bom # 918590 to look up parts if you want to see if you can find out where that condenser check valve is located, when I put it in heat mode shouldn't the throttling valve close all the way
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
i might take it to thermo king, when I put it in heat mode shouldn't the throttling valve close all the way?

Morning

ETV closes almost all the way in the heat mode

to reduce the risk of flooding the compressor

if this does not happen heads will ice over

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Etv only closes to 150 then it goes back and hangs around 177 in heat mode
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Then this morning I played with etv went to heat let in run a few min then back to cool, I did this about 10 times and the ETV would not open all the way only to 384 I was testing the ETV motor to see if gets hot and it quite opening up all the way

Thank you for that

well, sound like that is where your issue is

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is this etv hard to change out once I get the freon out, what all do I have to do if I change it
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I know it's in the trailer I seen it, it has wires and a clip over top of it

Morning

I have never changed one

not sure what is involved , can't be that hard

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok I'm headed to Thermo king let them deal with this and burn me a new wallet

Hi

I am very sorry this turned out this way

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
No problem you would of figured it out if you were the one working on it, it's a crazy ETV and it never had any ETV code or any codes of any kind, I will update you later after I leave Thermo king

OK, Thank you

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Wayne I just got back, went to thermo king waited half the day before they got me in, I told them to check the ETV and the condenser check valve, well they fooled around it checking things over a hour walking back and fourth to it and came back and ask if could I leave trailer, I said did you check the etv and condenser check valve like I ask, he said no he had to find the book he didn't know how to check the condenser check valve, he said Chad didn't think that was the problem, that's a older guy that works there, I said go find the book im not leaving my trailer, I live 82 miles from here and the only reason i came in the first place because it keeps raining and i have to work on it outside, well about 40 minutes later he came back and said the condenser check valve failed and they do not have the part it would have to be ordered, so I ordered the check valve it will be in Monday, I will put it on my self, this was a waste of truck diesel to go there and on top of that they charged me for 2 hours labor $231.00 and they were a bunch of newbies like me learning, also the condenser check valve is a round straight check valve on this unit, I found it before I went down there, I look in my thermo king computer catalog and found the location, it connects to the receiver tank then up to condenser, I was looking for a check valve with a y shape knob, with a nut/cap on it no such thing on this unit, I will keep this open til im finished so you can still get paid regardless, ive learned a lot the hard way but will never forget what I learned LOL
thanks
Vince

Hi

Again , so sorry for the time we spent,

and did not solve your issue ,

I have tried , thought of every thining I knew

I hope this gets solved,

by the way you owe me nothing,, I did not fix it , 2nd time in my life

this has happen, but 2 times in 34+ years , guess not to bad

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I attached a picture of a condenser check valve that looks looks like mine.
NO NO your still getting paid, you were right about the condenser check valve you just gave me the wrong description of what it looked like, most units have the check valve that you described, the sb200 just happen to have the round barrel shaped condenser check valve, I had multiple issues that you helped me find, the condenser check valve is just the last thing you said to check, the unit is cooling down faster now then it has in along time, if it wasn't for you it wouldn't be cooling down faster, I will put the condenser check valve on Monday and update you, hopefully this will be last thing that needs to be fixed, in the future this will also save me money so I don't have to go in to thermo king I can fix problems my self thanks to you, and if i cant figure out something i will message you again.

Morning Vince

well I fell better that it is working faster

yes let me know

Wayne

Hi Vince

just a follow up with you

how are things going ?/

Wayne

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Sorry, I haven't forgot about getting back to you, this unit has been a nightmare to fix, i bought 2 valves the condenser check valve and the other little check valve that connects to the receiver tank, I figured why I was in there i would change both valves since it's a older unit, we'll I will tell you both valves did not want to come apart from the start, I used 45% silver solder to put the new ones in and they kept leaking no matter how many times it was took apart cleaned and soldered again , I even called a friend to come over that does that type of soldering brass to copper all the time and he had the same trouble, I even pulled a vac on it for 6 hours, I even run 3 nitrogen bottles threw it all said and done, then I thought I was finally done, I filled it with nitrogen again and dang the leak came back on condenser check valve, fixed that again, then filled it with nitrogen again and left it for 20 minutes and came back to check gauges and it dropped a pound, i checked for leaks again the check valve wasn't leaking this time, so I started spraying big blue leak detector and found the oil line brass tee leaking on compressor, then I had to drive a hour down the road and get some blue lock leak to fix the brass tee, got that fixed then filled it with nitrogen again, no leaks on brass tee oncompressor this time,I let it sit 30 minutes went back checked gauges dang still got a leak, i sprayed all over compressor and pipes no leaks, went back of trailer tore that apart sprayed expansion valve no leaks, put that back together, went to front and sprayed check valves and dang the condenser check valve was leaking again, took the check valve completely out cleaned all solder off, then put back in with 15% silver solder now it's not leaking but it won't hold 225 pounds of nitrogen the gauges are leaking or I got a leak some where else and I can't find it, I'm pulling a vac on it now, shouldn't this unit hold 225 pounds a nitrogen with out leaking down at all? Or how long should it hold it before it leaks down?

Hi

I thought it was strange I did not hear from you

you been pulling you Hair out

if this is a scroll compressor, it will leak out nitrogen

other then that it will seep it also, not a lot but over time

Wayne

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
It's not a scroll compressor, it's a X430LS, how long will it hold nitrogen?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Almost 1am
This unit is still doing the same thing after all this work it's still freezing up the vibrasorber in heat mode, It's cooling just fine, what the world could be wrong with it? Could the compressor be doing this?

Morning

no not compressor, did you take it to TK to get the ETV changed

compressor x430 will hold nitrogen forever

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Thermo king said it was the condenser check valve, I changed that and it's doing the same thing, the ETV is working and opening up to 800, it has new condenser check valve, rebuilt 3 way valve, expansion valve, 4 new compressor valve plates, as soon as it goes in heat mode it starts frosting the vibrasorber pipe that comes out of wall then works it way over to vibrasorber at compressor

OK

under the suction valve is a check valve

in the compressor,it is brass and steel, screws in

use 2 punches and a screw driver to to remove it

it is like a spanner wrench , that is last thing to do

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Your talking about the suction valve where I hook the gauge to and the vibrasorber connects to it, it has 2 bolts that holds it down is that correct? I think I have one of them on my old trailer

HI

Yes it is were the old throttling valve use to mount

4 bolts

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Take those 2 bolts out that hold the valve on top, then take the 4 bolts out and turn it upside down and it's in there? Attached is a picture of it

Hi

It is in the compressor it self, not the valve

yes remove the 4 bolts and move housing to the side

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok once I get that a part what am I looking for to be bad? Don't I have to turn freon off to compressor by turning the valves clockwise all the way in far as they will go? Front seat I think you called it

Hi

Yes run the unit on low speed cool

get it to a vacuum, then front seat the SUCTION VALVE ALL THE WAY

shut unit off, and then front seat discharge valve

and remove the check valve

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
i just looked up the parts in thermo king catalog and it shows the suction screen under that housing thats it, Ok once I get that a part what am I looking for to be bad?

Hi

The valve is under the screen

it is the size of a silver dollar

there will not be any signs of failure

just warps

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
can I buy the part to fix this if that's what it is? I also have another x430 compressor in the garage that I can use parts off of
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I took compressor that I have in the garage took it apart and found that valve in there, it has 4 holes on top of it, so what take the 2 punches and stick in 2 holes across each other and turn them with screw driver? Heck of place to get to it

HI

Yes use your spare parts

yes a goofy place to have it

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I can't get it out, tell me exactly the way you get them out

HI

Try tapping in one of them holes to jar it loose

punch and hammer

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Does it have right handed threads

Hi

Yes standard threads, only about 3-4

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Ok
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I tapped on it hard few times and it won't move, must have lock thread on it

Hi

yes they do, because they vibrate loose

some time we had to break them out

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I can light heat with a torch
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
A heat gun might do it

Yes you can ttry that

not to hoot gun may be better then fire

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Lol I got the heat gun on it now
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I'm going to see if I can make a tool to get it out, it's not moving just distorting the holes
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Do you know the part number for this or can you get it for this x430 compressor

Hi

22-787 click here

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
That check valve is different then mine, I attached a picture of it

Yours is the old style

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
the new style will go in mine
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I just found that check valve you sent on the internet and it looks like it comes out threw the bottom of compressor because the bottom is bigger then the top with the threads and holes are on top

HI

I am such a dumb ass

Yes it does go from bottom, Stupid me, been awhile since I did it

there are 2 other check valve in the bottom also replace them

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I would need to drain my $92 new compressor oil out and buy another gal of oil to wouldn't I ?

Hi

If you put it in a clean container with a tight cover

you can save it

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Well I can't get no parts today and it's raining from that hurricane out of Florida coming threw, I need to use this trailer, I got to get back to work, do you think it will be ok to use it while it's freezing up the vibrasorber and pipes while it's in heat mode?

Hi

Yes it will be fine,

just reduce the heating capacity

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
how can I reduce the heating capacity when I haul frozen loads?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
another words it goes in defrost every 4 hours

Hi

Yes when it goes into defrost

it will reduce heating , longer to defrost

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Wayne I am back to work on this compressor today going to put in the check valves you told me to do, I have the compressor off and pan off, that big oil return check valve how can I get it out with out taking the crank and rods out? Also when I put it back on how do I make it suck the oil back in with the vacuum pump? I know where it hooks to the oil cap is on top of brass tee and put a hose in oil can

HI

You can not have to pull the crank

just push the pistons up to clear the crank

add the oil to compressor before you in stall it

thru top oil fill

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I got the tool that installs that check valve, I can't get that tool in there no matter where I move the rods and crank

HI

Yes need to remove the crank

use a rubber mallet on it to drive it out

then use a heat gun or torch to heat where the bearing goes into to housing

to have it slip in

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I have no new parts if I disassemble the crank and rods, I thought you said I could do this with out doing that

HI

you don't need any new parts

use the old , careful with the seal and carbon-ring

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
O I forgot the new 3 month old shaft seal is leaking I had to put freon in it while I was in Chicago, i checked it with my leak detector and i see where it's been leaking when I got it out, do you think that it put pressure on it where it's freezing up while in defrost mode caused that?

HI

No That would not cause the Freezing

Where in Chicago were you ??

I live in Bloomingdale, 27 miles west of Chic

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I didn't mean cause the freezing but could that check valve blowed that shaft seal? I went by Bloomingdale off 290 and 20, I go to Chicago area every week, I run short hauls around there just about every week, then go back home on the weekend

HI

290 and rt20 Lake street is

5 min from me

no that check valve would not cause that

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
You think it's the big oil return check valve causing the problem for sure? Or the 2 little check valves?
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
There's also 2 check valves according to my thermo king parts catalog on the right and left side of the shaft seal

HI

There is a total of 5 in there

2 inside the walls , and 2 on the font bearing plate

they are ballbearing

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Well which check valve do you think is causing the problem?

HI

I suggest ot replace the big middle one

and the 2 smaller ones if he balls are loose or stuck

they are $5.50 each

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Also since the new shaft seal is leaking now, the 2 check valves around bearing plate and shaft seal, do you think one of them could be stuck making it build up pressure and not letting the liquid flow back in the compressor and blowing out the shaft seal instead

HI

That is possible, but the

only way to check is remove it

and check the ball is free, Honestly, never seen it failed

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Yeah but this compressor sit for 6 years on my old trailer

OH

This is not the oem from your trailer ??

your redoing a old one ??

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
It's a oem Thermo king x430 compressor that I had put on 3 or 4 months ago, it's identical to the old one no difference it just has been sitting for 6 years

OH OK

I thought you pulled it out of storage

Wayne

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Yeah it was stored alright on my trailer
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
These little check valves on the inside where the crank is what's the torque value? 25 maybe

HI

I never torqued them, just hand tight,

but it is 28 Ft Lbs

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I'm doing this as I talk to you

That is fine

I am watching Packers game

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Who they playing tonight
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
How in the heck do you get a rod and piston out? The rod end is to big to come out the hole

Hi

Packs and cowboys, we just lost 30-17 UGGG

rod and piston slide out together with the sleeve

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Dang the Cowboys beat the Packers wow,Yeah I figured that sleeve had to come out after I got to looking at it, but I can't get sleeve to slide out, is it pressed in or what?

Hi

No. easy pull, push and slide

no effort

O-RING under sleeve , may hold it , but that is not normal

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
I took one rod cap off I'm trying to tap the check valve around now and slip it in that way, I done tap it around 3 times it can't be in much farther with only 3 to 4 threads on it, the only part is trying to get the chipped up brass

HI

Wel I have never done it this way

you need to make sure, air clean the inside

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Believe me I will make sure it's clean
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Nothing is ever easy for me,
I believe I can get to it if I can get the sleeve out, is the sleeve suppose to just slide out or what do I need to do? There's no oring or valve plate I took it out

Morning

Yes the sleeve just slides out

as a matter fact when turning it over by hand

heads off the sleeves come out, by them self

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Morning Wayne
I got the piston and sleeve out by taking a thin piece of wood against the deck and taking a screwdriver and prying up on the side of piston edge and the sleeve came out, I was able to get my check valve tool on it by going threw the cylinder hole and laying the tool on top of check valve once I got the rod out of the way, I had just enough clearance 1/4" maybe to get by the crank shaft journal with the extension to put it in the check valve tool, so I did not have to remove crankshaft,Also I'm asking again when I put the oil back in compressor after I install compressor back on unit, do I keep lowside and high side valves closed to get the vacuum pump to suck the oil back in?
Vince

Hi Vince

you do not have to do it that way

just pour it in thru the top plug for the block

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Well how do you do it that way, I'll have to drive 20 miles to buy a funnel

OK,

if you do not have a funnel

bring the the system into a vacuum with the pump

bring it to 30" vacuum, put the yellow hose in the oil

close both valves on gauges

and open the low side on gauge to suck it in

this is going to take awhile ,may have to do it 2-3 times

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Got it.
Thank you
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
O I do have some funnels but I cut the end of out of them to put motor oil in so it will go in faster

welcome

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Wayne I haven't talked to you in a few days, I got the compressor back on and I had a leak to fix on suction side valve adapter o ring or throttle body I heard it was called to, had to drive 80 miles one way to get that over in Greensboro NC, i put o ring on and check for leaks everything was good i thought, i put 100 lbs of nitrogen in and let it sit for 30 minutes and came back and the gauge moved down 1 lb , well i sprayed big blue micro detector leak on everything everywhere, i went in back of trailer tore that apart and sprayed everything no leaks back there, i thought it was maybe just my gauges leaking, so i pulled a vacuum for 3 hours last night and filled it full of Freon and let it run a while then i put it on heat mode and dang if it wasn't doing the same thing freezing up the vibasorber pipe all that work for no results, well i quit about 1:30 am this morning went on to bed, well today few minutes ago, i got my leak detector out and starting checking over everything and no leaks so i stuck it in the wall where there is 2 copper 3/8 pipes that go back in to the trailer and dang my leak detector started squealing loud, and can you believe this its the copper pipe that goes to the bottom side of the 3 way valve, i bet this is what has been wrong with it the whole time, what do you think?
i also put another compressor shaft seal in and it does not leak, i had that compressor shaft looking like chrome using scotch brite pads, then i used the decontamination wipes and the dry wipes and when i put the shaft seal on i drenched it and the shaft in compressor oil and it slid right on, the other shaft seal that was on it was only a few months old and that thermo king so called mechanic didn't even clean the shaft it looked like

HI Vince

I will tell you

once in my life I found a Reefer that I could not fix

or others , now this is the second one in my life

this has been a Thorn in OUR side from day 1, all the money you spent to no advail

that leak in the copper pipe, what side of 3 way did it go to

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
its the bottom pipe on the 3 way
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
it starts at bottom of 3 way goes in trailer and copper line runs all the way across and lays on bottom of evaporator coil and back where the 2 water drain holes are, I think its a 3/8 copper line, a pain in the ass looks like to fix, got to drive a hour one way to get the parts, I guess I will put a coupler on both ends and new copper pipe just to fix that area threw the wall, have to take exhaust pipe off to get to it on engine side and fix the other side in trailer, then some how make the bends in the hard copper pipe

HI

Yes use splices , easier the replacing new lines

that is what we did

This is just a Guess..............

It may have caused your issue , a drop in pressure

but doubt it , it is minute leak

Wayne

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Did you use soft copper when you repaired the 3/8 line?

Hi

We used copper from hardware store which is Yellow copper

harder and then used silver bearing soldier

can you a propane torch for it , melts and flows easy

it is a plumbers soldier

Wayne

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Yeah I have both propane or acetylene to do the job which do you prefer

Hi

sorry for delay, dinner

for that I would do silver bearing , propane

reason being hard to get at

Wayne

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Ok thank you
Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Wayne I got that pipe leak fixed, I been trying to find another leak since yesterdayhow long should this hold nitrogen before my gauges move down? I would think that the gauges shouldn't move at all but I'm not sure.what areas is the most common places theses units leak at?

HI

They will loose 1-3 lbs in 4 hours

most common leaks, 3 way,compressor seal,compressor manifold,

defrost tube in evap.,

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Where's the defrost tube location at and can I check it for a leak?
So if I don't have a leak it will still go down 1-3 lbs in 4 hours?

Hi

Remove the cover on Evap.,

it is that long tube that is u shaped in the defrost drip pan

yes it drops 1-3 lbs ,it is lighter then freon

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Yeah it lays in the drip pan and goes across and comes back across the 2 drain holes and climbs back up toward the expansion valve, that's the pipe I just fixed and i checked that for leaks to, just didn't know it was called a defrost tube

Hi

Well my friend , your good to go

charge and fire it up

also leave that cover off, see if the defrost tube gets cold, should be hot

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
What the Defrost tube should be hot only in heat mode or in cool mode?

Hi

In heat mode or defrost

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Ok that's what I thought,
lol I been out here 2 days again chasing a leak that don't exist geez, thanks for telling me about the nitrogen or I would of been still looking for a leak

Cheer up my friend

off to the store for me

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Yeah I'm good, this has been a big thorn in my side and also a good learning experience for me, hopefully this will fix the problem this time, going to pull a vacuum on it for a few hours

Hi

Yes you did learn a lot

if this does not fix it ,I am at a loss also

Wayne

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
Wayne I thought I would give you a update, it's still frosting through the pipe to the vibrasorber, it's not frosting up as quick now, but I did notice threw the site glass on compressor the oil is foaming up when it's in cool mode, it doesn't foam up when it's in heat mode, I will be in Streamwood IL tomorrow afternoon at Fresh Express 1109 East Lake Street

Hi

That is normal for the oil to foam

I know where that is what time ??

I have VA doc tomorrow

Customer: replied 2 months ago.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Well that's not good use WD40 to lubricant knees, just kidding, but I really knew a man that actually used wd40 and rubbed it on his knees.I have another question you can help with since I can't figure out the first question,
If I let my Thermo king sb200 sit for 2 to 3 days, its losing fuel prime, I have to turn it over 2 to 3 times before it will start, I have put new fuel prime hand pump, i put a new factory tk fuel filter, I cleaned the fuel pump screen, I have sprayed all the the fittings and copper washers with PB Blaster and seen no bubbles, not in less there's a check valve in there doing this I don't know

HI

That was what put me in Disability retirement

Mech was have trouble with a ISX, he had it jacked up doing PM

I was standing on the tire, and showing him what to check

the tire started to roll I grabbed the mirror bracket

but door was not closed, I slipped off tire and hit my knee cap

on lug nut and knee cap went up

They said your done working ................

Check valve there is one in the fuel transfer pump

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
