Heavy equipment question? Im working on a 2005 international 4300dt466, well when I started the truck is giving me allot of problems starting the truck, after a while starts. I put my diagnostic computer and it's telling me that "injection contro pressure, unable to build pressure... At engine" what is this, can it be fuel pressure pump, injectors or any sensor!!!!
Optional Information: Make: International Model: 4300 Year: 2005 Engine: Dt466 Already Tried: Ran a diagnostic and check fuel filter and fuel filter assembly.
Hi. Thanks for using JA! I will try and help you out.
These engines use high pressure engine oil to activate the injectors. If you have a code that states, "Injection Control Pressure". This basically means the high pressure system is having trouble making the pressure in the system. It means you have a problem with one of the following items.
The most common is a faulty IPR, or Injection Pressure Regulator. The is located on the drivers side of the engine on the High Pressure Pump. Many of these get replaced for this problem.
Next is a faulty High Pressure Pump.
Then the Injection Pressure sensor.
And lastly, you could have an injector leaking oil and causing the system pressure to be low.
Please reply back if you need more help of have more questions.
I just replaced the IPR sensor, but still have a slightly problem, the truck starts better but not quite what I was hoping for. I saw the tip of the IPRvsensor broken so I guess that was good that I replaced it, any more suggestions before I do anything else.
I see. Thanks for the information. That's good you reolaced the sensor. I would have done the same thing. The next thing to consider is either the IPR valve or the pump. Please let me know if you need more help.
High pressure pump is the same as fuel pressure pump, I'm doing a Pressure test on the fuel pressure pump, what is the reading on a bad one.
Actually they are two different things.
The high pressure pump supplies high pressure oil to activate the injectors.
There is also a fuel pressure pump as well. It supplies fuel to the injectors.
Your engine needs about 25 psi to start. When the engine is running, the pressure should be betwenn 60 and 80 psi.
In a early reply from you u suggested to check the high pressure pump, so On this case I should be testing the high pressure pump????if I replace this pump do I need to calibrate it or is ready to install when I purchase the new high pressure pump
Yes. I would test the high pressure pump. Since you have a code for the injection actuation pressure, you may have a faulty high pressure pump. The high pressure pump does not need to be calibrated or timed to the engine. It is just simply replaced.
So when u mention the truck needs the pressure of 25psi to start and 60 to 80 psi when engine is running u were referring to the high pressure pump.
No. I was referring to the fuel pressure.
The high pressure oil pump can have pressures up to 4000 psi. The system needs about 800 psi to start. If you are having problem starting, the pump may be having difficulty making pressure at first start. Many times when high pressure pumps begin to fail, they start doing this first.

Cat Man, after replacing the the IPR valve and the high pressure pump, I don t see a difference in starting the truck, I still have the same problem since the beggining, do u have any more suggestions
I see. Thanks for the information.Since you had an injection pressure code, I would suspect you could have a leak at one of the injectors or a pressure sensor problem.
when I use starting fluid the engine starts great, but when I don't use it, the truck takes a very long time to start.
I see. If there is a leak at an Injector, you may be able to remove the valve cover and see it.
So I guess it was not the high pressure pump, or the IPR valve
Evedently not. Sorry. I had mentioned earlier that they can be tested, I was thinking that was what you were goig to do. Sorry.
What about whenthe truck is runing and shuts down by it self.
Hi Fernando. If the truck is shutting down by itself, it sounds like it is loosing injection actuation pressure. Is it still giving the same code?
I'm replacing the O-rings on the 6 injectors on this international, what is the proper torque on this injectors?
Hi Fernando. Unfortunately I do not have the torque specs handy for the injectors. Sorry I can opt out of this question or you can post a new question and get another expert to answer. Which would you prefer?
How can u test a high pressure pump?
Hi Fernando. To test the high pressure pump you will need to install a 5000 psi gauge on the out line fitting of the pump. Then crank the engine. The pump should make over 4000 psi steady. No fluctuation. If it does not, the pump is bad.
