have a 1989 freight liner 3406 b it is wanting to miss a little and if you let it fast idle for a while it starts to oil smoke and it will pop out of exhast pipe some, after you take off down road it clears up and runs ok i think is got a leaking injector uses no oil and need to have a cat expert answer this
Hi. Thanks for using JA! I will try and help you out.
I would suspect an injector as well. I have seen this before.
If the engine sounds like it has a little miss, I would try and break the fuel lines loose at the pump to determine which cylinder is doing this. If you can isolate which cylinder, you could replace that one injector. Or you could have the injectors removed and pop tested in a Cat pressure test machine.
I would not suspect there is anything wrong in the cylinder like a bent valve, or broken piston ring. If that were the case, the engine would run poorly all the time.
Please reply back if you need more help.
i use lucas fuel treatment all the time due to low sulfer fuel is this enough or do i need to add some thing else , motor had a inframe from cat and has about 250 on it i build race engine for a living but have no cat exp.. is it hard to put injector in looks like will have to pull valve cover it has a jake as well will it have to come off
Thanks for the information. Its not difficult to replace the injector. However there are two special Cat tools needed to replace the injector. And yes. The jake will need to come off. Lucas fuel treatment is the best thing to use. I don't think you could do anymore too help. Its a good thing to use with this low sulfur fuel. Please reply back if you need more help.
