I have a 99 Chevy 6500 w/ an inline 6 cylinder cat. when it gets warm it will die if I don't keep the rpm's up. Once it cools down it runs great, I had some problems w/ water in the fuel this past winter but have drained the tank and changed filters 3 times. Any help would be appreciated.
Optional Information: Make: Chey Model: C6500 Year: 1999 Engine: inline 6 cyl cat Already Tried: just changing fuel filters thinking the problem was moisture related. Also, there is no fuel pump in the fuel tank.
Hi. Thanks for using JA! I will try and help you out.Does the check engine light come on when this happens?
Cat Man,
I have not seen a check engine light.
Thanks, Scott
Thanks for thee information.Since the light did not come on, I would suspect your engine has a fuel pressure problem. I have seen this before. Your engine should maintain a pressure between 65 and 85 psi. If it does not, your engine will do this. The main items that cause low pressure is a failed regulator on the back of the head or a weak fuel transfer pump. Please let me know if you need more help or have more questions.
