I have a case 580k backhoe that I use on my farm. It is leaking fuel around the fuel pump. How hard would it be to change out. Is it a matter of just taking it off or will I need to set it with the timing or something simular. Thanks Joey
Optional Information: Make: 580 K Model: case Year: 1985 Engine: not sure Already Tried: I have not tried anything yet. I have this on my farm and no way of hauling it to a mechanic. I was trying to find a mechanic that would come and look at it for me. I have not found one yet and was wandering if this is that hard to change and if I could do it myself. I did not know if it had to be set to the timing or if I could just take it off and put it back on and prime the pump. Thanks Joey

Your backhoe is old enough that it has a keyed shaft with key, so it will only go into the drive gear in one location.
Because of that , there is no way to get it out of time. You just need to remove the cover on the gear cover, ahead of the injection pump and remove the nut. Then unbolt the pump mounting flange bolts, then back to the gear side, use a small puller to push he shaft from the gear. The shaft will have a woodruf key in it, and on re-installation, this key will go back in the gear, lining up the pump correctly. You can make scribe marks on the mounting flange and on the shaft if you like, to be double sure.
Thank you.
