We own a 1999 Hino truck, 16 foot box with 140,000 miles.Recently it developed a problem while on the road and we had to tow it to a mechanic in the bronx, ny.The mechanic, which we have used in the recent past a few times says:a) the turbo needs to be replaced and it costs $2000.00.b) there is excessive blow by and probably the engine is damaged, he says.He bases this last comment in part on the presence of a hose from somewhere in the engine I believe. He asked me if there was ever a problem with the engine of this truck, but I can't locate anything in the record of the truck maintenance related to work on the engine itself.I do not think there has ever been a problem. He says if I change the turbo alone, the engine may not run very well and ultimately the new turbo will also be damaged. He asked for the price of a new engine and they told him $15,000.00.What do you think?
Engine: 4 cyl
Hi I'm Wayne, I will help you with this,That is out of the Question, that price Turbo on line is $1050.00, it is a GarrettEngine on line reman complete range from $7500.00 to 12500.00also replacing the turbo, will not damage the engine ,if the engine is worn out and blow by, it will not hurt the turbo either
So Wayne, thank you, XXXXX XXXXX I go to get a fairer treatment and can you guide me through the process of finding what we need if I provide you with the VIN number?Actually what the mechanic is saying is that if the engine is not good the new turbo will be damaged. What do you think? Are you pricing a rebuilt turbo? I've looked on the net, but do not seem to find engines for this model truck. Where would I look for one? Also, do you think his advice that I should also replace the engine if I replace the turbo is sound, or is it possible that there is nothing wrong with the engine?
