Customer Question

Hi this is for dr chip only .. I went and had an ultrasound on my carotid arteries today,, all ok apart from the left internal carotid artery, she said there is a 1.2mm bit of plaque on it, she showed me it, was very small.. anything to worry about?

No, grasshopper, absolutely no worries there

We all have some plaque on our arteries and that one is so small it isn't causing any blood flow problems

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Yeah that's what she said.. she told me it's the internal artery but on the report she has written common artery .. does it matter?
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

No, doesn't matter

The internal carotid is one branch of the common carotid

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Plaque
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

Absolutely nothing to worry about

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Ok thanks doc

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I'll ask the question now then u can answer when u are here .. it's just further advice I wanted on the question about the plaque in the carotid artery .. the small amount I have, is there a risk that it can break off and travel to the brain? Or can it get bigger very quickly or does it do that over several years? Am I at risk of a stroke? Should I ask my GP to put me on statins?
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

No risk of any kind and these grow, if at all, very, very slowly

And statins don't affect these

Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

What are your cholesterol numbers?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Ok.. hang on I'll check
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

OK

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
My most recent show as 5.6 as an overall .. trigs shows as 2.2 ( 2.3 being the cutoff)
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Haven't got hdl or ldl
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

Then you don't need statins

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Why? Is that good results?
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

Yes

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I got worried that the plaque will get bigger over the next few weeks or months
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

Oh, grasshopper---if there were absolutely nothing for you to worry about it would be necessary for you to find something to worry about

It absolutely won't get any bigger in a few weeks or months

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Lol
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Are we talking decades?
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

Yes

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
But even then if I keep my diet good then it shouldn't get bigger?
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

It shouldn't get bigger

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
that small amount would be something that developed over the course of my life? Not something that would have suddenly appeared? Sorry for repetitive q's .. trying to get a better understanding of it
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

It's probably been there for some time--no way to tell how long

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Ok but definately nothing to stress over? And definately not something that will get bigger rapidly
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

Correct to both

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Cheers ***** ***** catch up with u later.. oh and I forgot to say .. hope u had a good Christmas and new year :-)
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

I did and same to you grasshopper

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Right doc.. going to go to sleep but before i go.. I do a lot of excercise Won't make that plaque break off will it? I'm just thinking with the fast blood flops when I'm at the gym it might break off and head into my brain, or does it not work like that?
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Lol flops.. I meant fast blood flow
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

No it won't have any effect on the plaque

And you do have a lot of fast blood flops that bang you in the head.

Actually that sounds like aortic regurgitation--that is kind of a fast blood flop

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Oh no
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Don't get me thinking of that now
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Excercise should be beneficial for me really?
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

OOPS

Watch the watch--keep watching the watch--your eyelids are getting heavy--you only hear my voice.........

Exercise is good for you

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Lol
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I don't have any aortic regurgitation or any other cardiac issues .. lol
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I know ur a medicine man but would u recommend taking a bit of turmeric daily to reduce cholesterol ?
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

No and I slipped up--you do a fine job of finding something to worry about on your own

Garlic's probably more effective

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Ok thanks doc ... gnite
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

Nite grasshopper

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
Not gonna bother with garlic.. just had a quarter teaspoon of turmeric powder mixed with water.. going to have it twice daily for 3 months and then get my cholesterol checked .. I know turmeric has blood thinning side effects .. nothing too extreme I'm guessing?
Expert:  Dr. Chip replied 1 month ago.

Nothing too extreme

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
