Customer Question

My top lip swelled up out of no where.... About an hour ago!
JA: Any recent injuries? How long have you been dealing with the swelling? Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: No recent injuries, nothing. One minute it was normal and the next it was swollen.

39 FemaleNo itching/burning, nor do I have rash or swollen tongue. No other symptoms, or new medicines. I also have no known allergies...

I was thinking if I ate or drank anything new, as well. I had a sip of a lemonade that has blueberries in it that I have never had before. I always drink lemonade but the blue berry part is different for me. The ingredients say it has blueberry purée… But I eat blueberries all the time too. and, it was seriously only a sip.

Thanks for the follow-up.
I understand your concern.

As per your description, such sudden swelling is caused due to allergic reaction to food product, hives, angioedema.

Initial treatment may include cool compresses with ice pack.

Also take OTC Zyrtec and Advil.

Avoid hot,spicy food.

If your symptoms'll not show any improvement then see your doctor for a clinical exam.

Feel free for further queries. It's good to discuss rather than quit.

If it was something more severe, I would have trouble breathing, right? My lower lip is really chapped. Could that have something to do with it?
Expert:  Onlinedoc replied 1 month ago.

Thanks for the follow-up.

Yes,if it's severe then you might develop difficulty in breathing.

Chapped lip is not related.

However it should be treated also.

Take Zyrtec and cool compresses ASAP to prevent swelling progression.

If your symptoms'll not improve then see your doctor.

I hope this answers your question. If you would like to discuss this further or have any additional questions, please reply to my answer and I will get right back to you.
