ARFID (avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder) is an eating disorder characterized by limiting certain foods or food groups based on the food's appearance, smell, texture, appearance, a past negative experience with the food, and sometimes for no discernible reason. ARFID sometimes occurs with anxiety disorders and in children with a diagnosis of autism. ARFID is treated with cognitive-behavioral therapy and occasionally with hypnosis.
