should I be concerned about this

Has he been having regular bowel movements up until this started?

Sometimes constipation can cause anal leakage. The colon gets impacted and only liquid can slip by the blockage.

Other possible causes are oo much mucus produced as the result of a lesion or inflammation of the colon (proctitis). Altogether there are probably about 25 causes possible, some more serious than others.

For short term (less than a week) it probably isn't a matter of concern. For longer perionds, he will need to see his pediatrician for testing and exams to see what is causing it. It isn't possible to say online what is causing it.

Best regards,

Schuyler

Hello, Curtis,

Did you have additional questions about this? If not, I would appreciate a positive rating (hopefully a "5"). That is the only way we receive credit (or payment!) for providing answers here.

Thanks!
