Sugar-free candy may contain starch, fiber, and mostly likely a sugar alcohol (which can be high in carbohydrates). So they may give larger calories occasionally than the plain sugar. If one is diabetic, plain sugar would increase the blood sugar immediately for small duration while sugar less candy may raise blood sugar later on for longer duration. Some sugar less candy may have high calories, high carbohydrate and significant fat (which too is high calorie).
Sugar free candy may also cause diarrhea or upset the stomach.
Thus sugarless candy may not be better than plain sugar.
