It can come from other causes too.
An infection can cause protein to pass in urine
Nephropathy, glomerulonephritis of kidney due to different conditions can cause it.
Diabetic nephropathy is a common cause.
You need to discuss with doctor about the level & type.
Doctor can then decide whether further tests would be necessary.
