My daughter is 12. She is complaining of pain under her left

Customer Question

My daughter is 12. She is complaining of pain under her left rib. It goes and comes back. She said it hurts when she breathes but not all the time. The pain gets worse at times. She also has been complaining of her left shoulder hurting. It also goes and comes back.
JA: How long have you had the pain? What seems to make the pain better or worse?
Customer: She has only complained for 2 days but could have possibly been going on longer. She doesn't know it just starts hurting all of a sudden.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: She has adhd and takes a daily pill for this. No other health issues.

I am Dr. Arun and will be helping you today.

Does the pain increase after meals?

Has she burning in chest (heart burn)?

Is there any tenderness?

Was there any unaccustomed activity 3-4 days ago?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
She said yes sometimes.
She has had runny nose and sneezing but not sure if it is related.

Thanks for the further information.

Her pain below the left lower ribs and shoulder pain are more likely to be muscular pain than the visceral. These respond to Tylenol or Motrin. So you may try either of them. Also give her Prilosec. The pain can also be due to acid reflux and Prilosec helps in it. Also any acidity caused by Tylenol or Motrin also is negated by it. Hopefully this is likely to take care of it. But if the symptoms aggravate or any new symptoms like fever, shortness of breath occur, you may need an exam by her doctor.

Please feel free for your follow up questions.

I would be happy to assist you further, if you need any more information.

Sneezing many times is known to sprain the lower chest muscles. So that may be the possible culprit.
