Customer Question

My resting heat rate is usually 55-60 bpm. I wear a fitbit and this week it has been 75-80 bpm. Right now my heart is at 112. I have felt a heaviness in my upper chest and have been short of breath. Is this an emergency or can I wait to make an appointment with my doctor? I feel no pain. I am a 59 year old woman who is a runner and I am in excellent health, but this has me very nervous.

Hello,
Thank you for your question.
I am Dr Saha, I shall try my best to help you.
The feeling of pressure in upper chest along with shortness of breath can be related to heart like angina.
Pain may not be present always.
In women, anginal symptoms can vary.
Anxiety or stress can also cause it.
However, as heart issues is of serious concern, I would suggest to take an examination by doctor asap.
An EKG, blood work, echo should be taken.
I hope this information helps.
If there’s anything else I can do, please let me know.
If you are satisfied, please rate my answer as good or excellent.
Regards.
