I can feel a bone in my ear with a Bobby pin. It is rough, immovable, and very hard - definately not a scab. My ear bled for a bit when I first felt it. What is that?

Hi there,
This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

How far inside your ear you felt it?

Please do not put any pin inside your ear.

You may have puncutured the ear drum and bleeding is from that.

The hard bone can be the middle ear bony structure normally present.

Best wishes,
It was my pleasure to help you today.

It's far enough that you can't see it from the outside of the ear. My wife looked and couldn't see anything. It doesn't hurt. Hearing is not impaired in any way. It's definately a bone.

Ok then you likely either felt the roof of the ear canal which can have bony protuberance or any middle ear bone.

Hearing will not be affected usually.

You should see your doctor for otoscopic exam for confirmation.

Not concerning though.
