This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.
You have developed bronchitis.
Inflammation in the airways causes the wheezing and also mucus production.
It is better to cough out the mucus so that it does not get infected.
You can use dextrmothorphan and guaifenesin combination ( Robitussin DM) to help with expectoration as well as control excessive coughing.
An oral inhaler like albuterol also will be helpful bu dilating the bronchii but requires prescription.
Oral steroid inhaler can be used to reduce inflammation like fluticasone as well.
No other medication is required.
Since you do not have fever, or any difficulty with breathing, bacterial pneumonia is unlikely--so antibiotic not required.
It was my pleasure to help you today.
