Customer Question

I was looking for info regarding my mom's thumb and ran across this old question. Talked to mom this morning and she said the top of her thumb was black. She said she was a little weak, but no pain. She is 79 and had a stroke last February. She bruises so easily now, I'm thinking she hit it on something and doesn't remember doing it.

This can be a spontaneous bruise or bleeding under the skin.
Your mother can have any of the following:
Low platelet count, bleeding disorder like von willebrand's, blood thinner medication effect, liver or kidney disease.
Vitamin C and K deficiency also can cause easy bruising.
She needs blood count with differential, coagulation profile, liver function test, von willebrand factor level, anti cardiolipin antibodies ( for autoimmune disorders)
She should see her doctor soon and preferably a hematologist later.
