Had lots of red blood from my anus. No pain. Had a bad cold with severe coughing. No discomfort and I am a 72 yr. old male. I just had a prostate examination with result of o.k. with slightly enlarged prostate.
Hello,

Thank you for your question,

I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.

Is it the first time?

How many times did you pass blood?

How was stool?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

went to the bathroom three times during the night but did not see the blood until the third episode. Never had any blood before this and all blood, no stool. Had an enlarged prostate year ago and been on Flomax since then. No other incidents, been very healthy other than this severe cold with coughing that seems to be going away.

Thank you Joe, for the information,

Fresh red blood can come from a few causes.

Common cause is hemorrhoid.

This can cause large amount of blood to pass.

There may not be any pain with it.

Anal fissure can cause bleeding with stool.

But it is usually associated with sharp pain.

Polyp, growth can be other factors.

Inflammatory bowel diseases, diverticulitis, infection etc. can be causes sometimes but they are usually associated with pain, loose stool etc.

Prostate enlargement would not cause it.

As you do not have any other symptom, it can be bleeding from hemorrhoid, which is a commoner cause.

However, I would advise to consult doctor to have an examination.

Doctor can take stool test, rectal examination, scope to find out the exact cause.

Please take plenty of fluid to keep good hydration.

I hope this information helps.
