Resolved Question:

I came down with what I thought was a cold. My chest felt raw, started coughing, runny, stuffy nose, sore throat, sneezing. The congestion was sever. I developed a fever also, but that broke. Now I am still coughing, and stuffy, but I feel pressure in tthe center of my chest. Not pain, just pressure. What is going on? Any ideas?

Hello,
What is your age and gender?
Do you have shortness of breath?
Phlegm at back of throat?
Pain in chest during coughing, deep breathing?
Since how long have you been suffering from?
Are you taking any medications?
Alcohol and smoking?
Any other medical history?

Thanks.

I am 60 years old and female. Basically healthy. Been taking a prescribed water pill for borderline high blood pressure. Usually 135/70. I suspect I have sleep apnea since I snore and I actually feel my soft pallet block my throat at times. No pain during breathing, sometimes when I cough. Phlegm is in my lungs. I was making a horrible racket while attempting to sleep. Yes, I am a smoker, but no alcohol or drugs. it came on quickly. It began on Thursday with a slight raw feeling in my chest, Friday I felt all foggy, then at it hit me full force.

Hello,
Thanks for providing more information.
As you describe, possible causes may include Bronchitis,Sinusitis,Pharyngitis.
And further a clinical examination by your regular doctor and chest auscultation,Chest X-ray,CBC,ESR,Throat culture should be done in your case.
In the meantime you should take some self care measures like
Elevate your head side of bed while lying down.
Use a humidifier in your room.
Take OTC Coricidin HBP as you have history of hypertension.

Drink warm liquids.
Also steam inhalation and saline gargles can be helpful.
If you have pain in throat then Oral betadine gargles can be used.
For fever,take OTC Motrin.
And make an appointment with your regular doctor for further evaluation and management.

I hope this helps.
If you have any further query then feel free to ask.
Positive feedback and bonus are highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Why the pressure in the middle of my chest?

Expert:  Dr. Anil Kumar replied 1 year ago.
Hello,
Pressure in middle of chest can be caused due to Bronchitis, violent coughing.
However it can be associated with Ischemic heart disease as well.
So if you are having difficulty in breathing then it's good to visit ER and EKG must be done in your case.

I hope this helps.
