When I was younger, my pediatrician mentioned to my mother

This answer was rated:

When I was younger, my pediatrician mentioned to my mother that I was overly flexible and that it could cause some issues later on in life. She never named a "disease" and we never pursued it.

I had surgery to correct subluxation of my left shoulder in June, 2012. I'd suffered for YEARS with that pain. My orthopedist said that I have the same problem with my right shoulder, though not as severe.

I'm currently seeing a podiatrist for foot pain in the joint of my big toe area. He told me that that joint moves entirely too much when I walk - both up and down - and that's what's causing the pain. I'll have to have surgery to correct it. This doctor, too, told me that I have the SAME problem with the left foot, but to a lesser degree.

What is going ON??

Dr. Brims :

Hello, welcome to the site! My name isXXXXX will try to assist you with your medical question and any medical information you seek.

Dr. Brims :

You may have a variant of ehlers danlos syndrom

Customer:

A variant?

Dr. Brims :

Yes, I don't think you have ehlers danlos syndrome, but something milder

Customer:

hypermobility syndrome? (gotta love wikipedia)

Dr. Brims :

Yes, hypermobility syndrome

Customer:

lovely....

Customer:

so, what do i do??

Dr. Brims :

I would recommend starting with a test called a complete metabolic profile, to check your blood levels of calcium and copper

Dr. Brims :

Are you still there?

Customer:

How? Does my Dr. have to order that?

Dr. Brims :

Yes, your doctor needs to order it

Customer:

When I make the appointment, do I tell her what I think I might have?

Dr. Brims :

You can tell her your symptoms, and also tell her what you suspect you may have

Customer:

What types of treatments are there for this?

Customer:

I've had shoulder surgery...I'm having foot surgery....I'm getting to not be a fan of surgery...

Dr. Brims :

I understand, if there are abnormal levels of copper or calcium that are causing it, then supplements may help

Customer:

Ok.

Customer:

So, make an appointment with her, then, basically, and go from there?

Dr. Brims :

Yes, that would be the best option

Customer:

Lovely. Well.... I basically just wanted to see if my suspicions were on the right path.

Customer:

So thank you.

Dr. Brims :

You're quite welcome
