Hi. I am experiencing cramping which starts on the right side

This answer was rated:

Hi. I am experiencing cramping which starts on the right side of my lower back and spreads across to the left side. It is a periodic squeezing pain. It started right after a bowel movement. I've experienced this before but today it is constant and won't go away. For an unknown amount of years I have also had "skinny" stools and bloating. What could this be?

Thank you for your question,

I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.

When did the pain start?

Did you strain during passing stool?

Is it limited to back?

Do you have any pain in abdomen?

How was stool this time?

How is urine?

How old are you? Male or female?

Did you have any test before for this type of pain?

Did you take any medicine?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

It started right after a bowel movement this morning.

I always have to strain somewhat.

Yes it's limited to the back.

There is no pain in the abdomen.

I'm a female.

My urine is fine- at least to my knowledge.

I have had no tests.

I take medicine everyday.

Which medicine do you take regularly?

Did you have any test for skinny stools and bloating?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I take Setraline.

I have never had any testing for the skinny stools.

Thank you for all the information.

There are a few possibilities.

The pain can arise from spine.

There can be nerve impingement, muscle spasm.

That can be felt on both sides.

Straining during passing stool can aggravate it.

You can take tylenol or motrin for pain, if you do not have any contraindication.

You can also apply warm or heat.

If those do not help, I would suggest to take an examination by doctor.

Muscle relaxants, prescription grade pain medicines can be needed.

One of the common cause for bloating & skinny stool is irritable bowel syndrome.

That can be associated with anxiety, stress.

However, you need to talk with doctor regarding those symptoms to rule out any other condition.

Please take plenty of fruits, vegetables & fluid.

Those would help to have good bowel movement.

I hope this information helps.

My goal is to provide you with excellent service today. If there’s anything else I can do, please let me know.
