IGF 1 is insulin like growth factor protein.
The level is elevated in case of excess growth hormone in the body.
The condition is known as acromegaly.
it said igf -1 ( somc )185 A
how old are you?
And what is the normal reference range?
56 do i look under the age part
can't see your answer
Yes you should see in age specific reference range.
56 -60 says 81=225 i don't iderstand it if it says 185 A which i assume means abnormal
i am 56
then your level is elevated
Anything above 173 is considered elevated.
What symptoms do you have?
how can it be elavated if the range is 81-225 185 is in the middle
as per most standard labs, at your age group the upper limit of normal value is 173.
In case of your lab, if they specify 225 as upper normal value in your age group, then that is different.
the value needs to be interpreted by the age.
younger people have higher normal value.
sorry i don't understand do i have excess growth hormone
what does it mean - what do i do who do i go to what are the symtoms
IGF 1 is a proxy for growth hormone.
Yes that means you have excess growth hormone.
Do you see an endocrinologist?
what exactly is growth hormone
what are the symptoms more hair
what symptoms do you have currently?
i don;t know what i am suppose to look for
Usually joint pains, enlarging jaw and tongue, headache, vision loss, deepening of the voice are common symptoms.
Growth hormone is produced by the pituitary gland located in the brain,.
This is responsible for the cell growth in the body --bones, soft tissue etc.
Excess hormones will cause excess activities producing these symptoms.
Usually a pituitary tumor can be responsible for this.
This is a complex topic and hence better evaluated by an endocrinologist.
i have joint pain i had hashimtos- low dhea and i have a lyme disease marker
see these symptoms can be caused by the growth hormone excess.
Better to get this checked out.
so i go to a endrcologist
do i get a pitutatary test
mri of the brain
yes you should get a MRI and go to the endocrinologist.
