The giving away feeling suggests problem in the rotator cuff tendons.
Rotator cuff tendinitis is very common from the recent heavy exercises.
The inflammation of the tendons supporting the shoulder can cause weakness of the shoulder joint.
Now there is also goof possibility of rotator cuff tear.
Since you can lift your shoulder overhead, major tear is unlikely.
But partial tear is very possible.
Yes pain may not be present all the time.
It is the activity limitation that helps to diagnose the problem.
Usually 3 to 4 weeks to recover from.
avoid any lifting above 10 lbs
Physical therapy is the mainstay of the treatment.
This is best done under supervision of an experienced physical therapist.
You can apply ice 5-10 minutes at a time 2-3 times daily.
Advil 400 to 600 mg 3 times daily with food can be taken for pain control.
