Should I be using a Beta Blocker? I have hyperhydrosis, and often have anxiety (i would say pretty mild, but occurs maybe everyday). Even if I didn't need to take a beta blocker often, would it hurt to take in anxiety producing situations (such as an interview?)
Hello,
Is your excessive sweating all over the body or localised at specific parts?
Any other medical history?
Are you taking any medications?
Weight changes?
Any recent infection?
Since how long have you been suffering from?
Have you seen a doctor so far?

Thanks.
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

The sweat amount and location depends on what i'm thinking or doing. usually its in the underarms, palms, and feet.

I dont have any medical history, but perhaps its because i hardly go to the doctor.

I am not taking any medication.

No weight changes.

No recent infection.

I've been a "sweater" since i was fairly young. I remember being 12 or 13 and my father had told be i had hyperhydrosis (as he does) because I would get sweat stains in the underarms of my clothing.

I have not seen a doctor about this.

Hello,
Thanks for providing more information.

Treatment options may include
Antiperspirants like Mitchum or Drysol.
Botox injection are good treatment option.
It provide relief for six months and in some cases for 10 months.
Botox Injection blocks the nerves to decrease sweating.

So, its not just the hyperhidrosis that concerns me, but the anxiety in general. I am wondering if taking a beta blocker would be appropriate. Also, i read somewhere that you should not be taking a beta blocker if you have had any history at all with cocaine (i used for about 6 months to a year about 6 or 7 years ago)

Hello,
Thanks for the follow-up.
Beta blocker is contraindicated to use in cocaine abuse patients.
However if you are currently not taking cocaine so your doctor may advise beta blocker however with limited good effects for hyperhidrosis.
Iontophoresis,Botox injections and anticholinergic drugs are effective treatment options for hyperhidrosis.

I hope this helps.
