My mother woke up this morning with body wide muscle pain.

This answer was rated:

My mother woke up this morning with body wide muscle pain. She has osteoarthritis but this is something new. She has a sinus infection but that is not new either. This pain is acute onset and worsening. She refuses to go to the hospital. She says she never had anything like it before.

She has frequent urination. Each time she lays down she has to go to urinate.

She is 75 years old. Relatively active. Obese. She has not been diagnosed with diabetes.

She takes Prozac for depression and Advair to control her athsma.

She just told she she is very sleepy and feels weak.

Thank you for your question,

I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.

How is her temperature?

How is the color of urine?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Her urine is dark and she thinks she does have a fever. I am not physically with her but I have her on the phone

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

She says she also feels dizzy

Thank you for the information,

Her symptoms is probably due to urinary infection.

In urinary infection there can be fever, frequency of urination.

Muscle pain can be associated with fever.

Electrolytes, urea, creatinine, urine analysis, blood counts should be taken.

When she is sleepy, weak, dizzy she should go to hospital as soon as possible to start investigations and treatment.

Please tell her to call ambulance if there is nobody to take her to hospital.

I hope this information helps.

I will be happy to assist, if you need any clarification.

Please feel free for any follow up query.

Best wishes.

I just called her again and she flat out refuses to go to the hospital. Her doctor sent her some antibiotics and she says she wants to take them today and tomrorow and if she doesn't feel better she will go. I'm scared but she won't listen to me. I know she will refuse an ambulance if I call one. Short of her her passing out, what should I look for/ I will be with her shortly.
When her doctor sent the antibiotic?

Did she start antibiotic? How many doses?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.
He said she should call his office tomorrow and come in on Sunday. I have no idea about doses. She had a UTI before but she is a poor historian. I have to assume it is the same does. He has seen her within the last 6 months
Antibiotics can control infection but it can take some time to have effect.

Same antibiotic may not work all the time.

If she has recurrent infections, an urine culture would be helpful.

But with such symptoms of dizziness, drowsiness, I feel she needs an urgent evaluation.

Give her plenty of fluid.

In urinary tract infection, taking more fluid is helpful.

There can be dehydration, electrolyte imbalance so that she is feeling drowsiness.

Her pulse, blood pressure needs to be monitored..
