The shingles rash should come out within 48 hours of the onset of the pain.
Sometimes you may not see any rash since you were already started on valacyclovir.
Another possibility can be neuralgia.
The nerve supplying the affected area can get inflamed or irritated causing the pain.
Occipital neuralgia is one such example.
The pain related to the shingles or neuralgia can persist for several days.
To treat the pain, gabapentin
is one medication that can be used successfully.
