Hello,

Thank you for your question,

I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.

When did you develop loss of appetite?

Do you have any other symptom?

Do you have any other illness?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.

I've had little appetite as long as I can remember. I occasionally take Omeprazole for acid reflux. I also am seeing a psychologist for anxiety.

Thank you Jeremy, for the information.

There can be a few causes for decreased appetite.

Anxiety, stress, depression are common causes.

Reflux/ gastritis can also cause it.

There can be other causes like low thyroid state, an infection, malignancy etc.

The detection of cause is important.

Treatment of the cause would correct the issue.

You should avoid anxiety, stress.

Your BMI or body mass index is within normal range.

If you want to increase weight then you need to increase diet in amount and calories.

In breakfast, you can keep fruits, milk or yogurt, nuts etc.

Oat meal with milk and banana will be heavier and more calorie rich than only burger.

Milk product, egg, meat, fish, dry fruits, nuts have more calories.

You should keep them in your daily diet schedule.

Taking 5-6 meals each day instead of 3 major meals will be helpful.

You should avoid small snacks which may suppress appetite.

You should exercise regularly to stay fit.

I hope this information helps.

I will be happy to assist, if you need any clarification.

Please feel free for any follow up query.

Best wishes.

Is there anything I can do to be hungrier or increase my appetite at times of meals?

Expert:  Dr. Saha replied 9 months ago.

Though there are some medicines which can help to increase appetite but they are not routinely advised.

In certain disease, weight loss conditions they can be helpful.

But still prolonged use can cause side effects too.

Please read this link on it.

As you are not having any weight loss, have normal BMI, I would suggest to try to avoid anxiety, stress & take food normally.
