Hi My symptoms seem to evolve & I am concerned - can you

Customer Question

My symptoms seem to evolve & I am concerned - can you help?

I have had a numb buttock for several months (right) accompanied by muscle twitching in both calves. Physio previously relieved the numbnes & twitch but it can/has come back on & off

I have also had dizziness for 5 weeks - i have seen my GP & a neurologist who concluded I may have nerve compression or pressure in the neck. as a result I have been having physio (5 sessions) which have reliueved the problem for days & longer.

I had physio last saturday & monday - on sunday night i had a slight right arm weakness, then pins & needles & now burning in my skin - this is much worse in the sun. the burning skin is forearm & hand & now in both arms. could this be as my GP suggests a reaction from physio.

I have little dizziness now, no eye pain & minimal to zero vision problem (eye examine a few weeks ago). I am no more tired than ususal (with a 2 year old) but have been going to bed earlier.

I am concerend these may be MS symptoms?

Please advice

Do you have neck stiffness?

Are you taking any medicines?

What is your occupation?

Have you undergone MRI of spine?

Any other medical history?

Thanks for providing additional information.

I understand your concern and unfortunately Multiple sclerosis can result in numbness or weakness in one or more limbs,Tingling or pain in parts of your body,Fatigue,Dizziness.

And further MRI of spine,Lumbar puncture and a clinical examination by a neurologist should be done for further evaluation.

As in your case, chances of peripheral neuropathy, nerve compression due to herniated disc are more likely as you have already consulted neurologist for a clinical examination with no diagnosis of MS.

You should try Meclizine(Antivert) which will help control the dizziness.

And it's possible that during early sessions of physical therapy, sometimes symptoms get worse for few days however after continuing for few weeks you'll get some relief.

You can take OTC Motrin/Advil as well.

Do massage with muscle relaxant on affected areas.

Start multivitamin supplement.

You can ask your doctor for some medications like Gabapentin.

If your symptoms'll not improve then a repeat consultation with a neurologist should be considered again.

Hope this helps.
