I have been having issues with what was told to me in the emergency

This answer was rated:

I have been having issues with what was told to me in the emergency room as Kidney stones. I had some gross hematuria in my urine for one week and since it's cleared up, that was two months ago. They also said I have Gallstones.
Now, I made an appointment to see an urologist and just before I was on my way out the door I looked up directions. I saw that many people had complained of this man and he only had two stars out of five. Lowest I saw.
I
get there and everything they said I find to be true. I walk in and the minute I sat down he blurts out that I might have bladder cancer. I’ve had a ultra sound which showed no tumors, my urine shows no infection, no cancer cells. But he says, they could be small and the scan may have not picked them up.

My symptoms have been flank pain and lower back. Upper stomach issues which I’m finding happen if I eat any type of oil. Even walnut or almond oil.

Is bladder cancer the only thing this could be? I mean that’s all he wanted to talk about was cancer. Even a cyst they found in my kidney he said we watch that every two years because it might grow into cancer.

Everything he talked about was cancer. That seems like a very poor bedside manner to me.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

hello would you like to chat on this?

Dr. P. Jyoti :

I am Dr. P. Jyoti, MD. I promise to use my full experience and knowledge to provide answers specific to your question. Feel free to ask me anything.

Customer:

Sure..

Customer:

Did you read my issue?

Dr. P. Jyoti :

hello, yes

Dr. P. Jyoti :

i must say that this doctors behavior was odd

Dr. P. Jyoti :

did the ultrasound show the stones?

Customer:

Yes. And he said Bladder cancer causes stones.

Customer:

And I also had Gallstones

Dr. P. Jyoti :

well, thats not common at all

Dr. P. Jyoti :

stones can cause bladder cancer in fact

Dr. P. Jyoti :

but as you have intuited, there is no reason at all to think of bladder cancer right now

Dr. P. Jyoti :

since stones have already been seen and it is this that needs to be treated

Customer:

They have done nothing.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

has he advised a cystoscopy? what did he advise for the stones?

Customer:

I live in a very bad town for medical treatment but I have wonderful insurance.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

has he advised a cystoscopy? what did he advise for the stones?

Customer:

A Cat scan

Dr. P. Jyoti :

ok

Customer:

And they have given me nothing to help flush them out.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

i would advise - go ahead with the cat scan for now

Customer:

I lost a few on my own.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

this will definitely help at least in ruling out bladder cancer

Customer:

I am going to get that done but I have to wait for two weeks.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

it will show the stones clearly and he wont be able to talk about cancer after that

Dr. P. Jyoti :

at the same time, ask about the treatment for the bladder stones

Customer:

What other things could cause stones?

Dr. P. Jyoti :

depending on the size, they can be flushed out with a period of monitoring

Dr. P. Jyoti :

or if too large they need to be removed

Customer:

He said they are very small.

Customer:

And only in my kidney they found none in my bladder.

Customer:

And gallbladder

Dr. P. Jyoti :

ok, i thought it was the bladder

Customer:

No kidney stones

Customer:

Kidney and Gallbladder

Dr. P. Jyoti :

ok

Dr. P. Jyoti :

there are many causes of kidney stones

Customer:

He was saying that bladder cancer causes Kidney stones

Dr. P. Jyoti :

but in the majority, no exact cause can be identified

Dr. P. Jyoti :

well, that may happen, but thats not what we think of when we see kidney stones

Customer:

It's all he wanted to talk about.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

it was certainly not appropriate of him to think of cancer as soon as he sees stones

Customer:

Bladder cancer

Customer:

He said because I had blood in my urine

Dr. P. Jyoti :

i would advise, wait for the CT scan

Customer:

That lasted one week and it cleared up two months ago.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

this will clear up the matter

Dr. P. Jyoti :

you can approach him again with the CT reports

Customer:

okay.

Customer:

I'm wanting a new doctor

Dr. P. Jyoti :

this time he will not be able to insist so much on cancer as I am sure the CT scan will not show this

Dr. P. Jyoti :

yes, thats what i was going to suggest

Customer:

He was very negative and said people die every day with bladder cancer

Customer:

My entire family is upset.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

if after the CT he still has no practical treatment plan, then it is best to go to another urologist

Dr. P. Jyoti :

you are certainly well within your rights to seek a second opinion

Customer:

Okay.. I will.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

i can understand

Customer:

Thank you.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

glad to help

Dr. P. Jyoti :

dont let him worry you, its not cancer i am sure

Dr. P. Jyoti :

just go through the CT scan which is needed anyway and then consult him

Customer:

Thank you and I am not worrying as much as my mom and husband.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

and after that a second opinion if he still says the same thing

Dr. P. Jyoti :

meanwhile lots and lots of fluids - water, juices etc

Customer:

Yes I'm doing that and drinking lemon water.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

commonest cause of kidney stones is inadequate intake of water

Dr. P. Jyoti :

so you need to take lots of water

Customer:

I know and we just moved here to a very dry area.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

hopefully the stones will get washed out

Customer:

Thank you.

Dr. P. Jyoti :

thats right, that might have precipitated this

Dr. P. Jyoti :

well, i hope i have been helpful

Customer:

I was working out hard when the pain hit.
