I fell and cut my big toe. Its pretty deep. The skin is still there holding on one side like a flap. I went to a cvs clinic and they told me to clean it and keep putting bacitracin on. My question is do i open the skin flap to clean in between or leave it closed. It happened yesterday so the skin is " re stuck".

Hi there,

I am Mysticdoc, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to help you with your concerns.

mysticdoc :

That is a good question,

mysticdoc :

I assume your wound was cleaned yesterday in the CVS clinic.

mysticdoc :

It is better not to open the wound as it may cause bleeding.

mysticdoc :

Instead, wash it from the outside with warm clean water.

mysticdoc :

Soap water is also fine.

mysticdoc :

Then pat dry, and apply bacitracin.

mysticdoc :

Keep the area bandaged to avoid any dirt entering the wound.

Customer: I see dark coloring under the skin. Not sure if there is any dirt left or if its dried blood. Will the body take care of itself if its dirt?
mysticdoc :

this is likely clotted blood.

mysticdoc :

yes body will take care of the healing.

mysticdoc :

There is no dirt likely due to the clot formation.

Customer: I received antibiotics but really dont want to take them. Is that fine as long as i see its healing ok?
mysticdoc :

yes that should be fine

Customer: thank you
mysticdoc :

as long as there is no worsening of the swelling or pain or fever, you should be fine.

mysticdoc :

very welcome

mysticdoc :

Best wishes,
