my husband just took a annual physical and had a urine test

This answer was rated:

my husband just took a annual physical and had a urine test and blood test. The doctor called back and said he had an elevated protein level detected. id not say it was from his urine test or blood test. He did ask him to come in and take an additional blood test to see what type of results it may show! I looked on internet and saw several different causes and reasons as to what elevated protein levels mean. I would like to get a more informed opinion of what elevated protein means. I did see it also related to cancer possibly-he didn't seem concerned with that cause his test did not come back that high!

Just want some information on what can cause elevated protein levels. Not sure if it was from the urine test or blood test-but an additional blood test is what he recommended to get more specific results?

Any information would be appreciated. His additional blood test is tomorrow morning at 10 am!

Cordially, Dianne!

Anthony Bray MD : Hello!
Anthony Bray MD : well there are different possible scenarios that could fit with your description .

can u give me alittle more info than that! everything else on his tests and previous tests were normal over the past year! give me some scenarios other than what I found out on internet please!

Anthony Bray MD : We do check protein/ albumin levels for one. Albumin is the most common protein in the blood. A high ratio of other protein vs Bunin may be due to increased immunoglobulin type proteins. This is the type that may be present in certain malignancies such as lymphoma for example.
Anthony Bray MD : In looking for lymphoma or multiple myeloma we do serum protein electrophoresis and urine protein electrophoresis to test for the type of abnormal protein spikes seen in these disorders .
Anthony Bray MD : There is also a test called C- reactive protein which is an inflammatory protein. It may be high in a large number of conditions which increase the general inflammation of the body. If the CRP were high then the doctor may look further for conditions such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis ...

OK-u need to speak English to me!! I understand what lymphoma is! what else r you talking about as far as Alburmin or Bunin due to an increased immunoglobulin type proteins mean? And what is the basic type of medicine one needs to take to offset the high level (which we right now don't know how high is high) or if it is even cancer related!

Anthony Bray MD : iIt could be that he had protein in the urine in which case further investigation of the kidney function and kidney disease would be in order.

I just saw your additional answer--give me time to read it please!

Anthony Bray MD : i hope that this information is helpful for you! Let me know if you have further questions a d I will be happy to get back with you!
Anthony Bray MD : If my answers have been helpful and to your satisfaction then please remember to leave positive feedback. ThAt would be very much appreciated! Thank you and best regards!
Anthony Bray MD : Anthony Bray MD
Anthony Bray MD : Sorry for the medical lingo... Some things are hard to translate though...
Anthony Bray MD : there would not be a med to take specifically for an abnormal lab result though ....

I will contact u tomorrow after my husband takes the test and we find out the results of the blood test!! Thanku for your info! He will talk to the doctor tomorrow about what u have informed us! As soon as I find out anything--I will contact u! Cordially, Dianne!

Anthony Bray MD : OK that will be fine!! I look forward to hearing back from you! I hope that his tests turn out well!! Take care!

I will talk to you tomorrow after I find out what the doctor says after the blood work or the day after! After all the tests--nothing has showed up like this! Now it is a waiting game!! I will let you know what he says as soon as I find out what the blood tests reveal! Cordially, Dianne!

Anthony Bray MD : Ok that will be fine. Just let me know details as you get further results back. I will be happy to discuss them with you. I realize that it may take a little time. That is fine! Best regards!
Hello again,

Let me know if and when your husband gets further results! I will be happy to get back with you. The site keeps pulling this question up as though I need to respond but I don't see anything new??? It may be a glitch here in this case... At any rate let me know anytime if you have further question!

Take care!!

I kept trying to get back to you but was having a problem. I kept going into a loop and then when trying to get to an expert they sent me to another one. Then asked me to pay before receiving an answer.

I am on an unlimited plan so something was wrong with the system. Customer service had to reset my account to get me out of the loop.

eventually had to get to another doctor cause u were off line and it didn't give me a reply to you-the expert.

Just for your info--the wanted another blood test to check for Hyperglobulinemia! The other doctor explained what that meant and it's relationship to high protein levels. We are waiting on the results now!

Thanku for your service!!
