My heart rate is at 190-200, I noticed while sitting at my desk at work that I could feel my heart beating hard in my neck. I took my pulse on my neck and it's at 19 to 20 beats per 10 seconds. I am a healthy 44 year old woman. Should I seek medical attention?

Thank you for your question,

I’m Dr. Saha and I’ll try to help you.

When did the symptom start?

If you feel 19-20 beats/ 10 sec. it comes around 120/ min

Where are you counting 190-200?

Do you feel any other symptom?

Do you have any other past illness?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

This just started within the past 5 or 10 minutes. I was checking my pulse on my neck. I was just noticing that my heart beat was noticable in my neck and chest which I haven't experienced before. I'm not feeling any other symptoms. I have had pericarditis before from an injury (accident).

Thank you Gina, for the information,

Normal heart rate in adult varies from 60-100 beats per minute.

Increase in rate can occur from different causes.

Mild increase in rate can occur from anxiety & stress which can settle down with relaxation.

But if it is such high like 190-200, you need to go to ER for an evaluation by doctor.

EKG, echo & other tests need to be taken.

Heart related issues should be ruled out.

I hope this information helps.

I will be happy to assist, if you need any clarification.

Please feel free for any follow up query.

Best wishes.
