Not sure what to do about thyroid medicine. Been having night

Resolved Question:

Not sure what to do about thyroid medicine. Been having night sweats with hot flash feelings, very tired upon awakening. I had tsh 4.55 before going on armour thyroid 30mg two years ago. Now tsh is 1.7 but these symptoms are distrubing. Homeopathic md thought my adrenals were fatigue and wanted me to take ashwagandha and tyrosine and low dose of nature throid 1/4 grain to build up adrenals and slowly add thyroid medicine. family md thinks tsh is good but wanted me to take 50mg of synthroid instead of armour.I am not sure what to do. For two days now i stopped armour just to see and i dont have the sweating or the extreme fatigue. I mean i was having to lie down several times a day.

mysticdoc :

Hi there,

I am Mysticdoc, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to help you with your concerns.

mysticdoc :

Your TSh level is indeed in normal range ( goal below 2.5).

mysticdoc :

Synthroid alone should be sufficient.

mysticdoc :

However, in some people there may be selenium deficiency.

mysticdoc :

This can make synthroid or thyroid medication less effective.

mysticdoc :

Hence, selenium should be supplemented at 100 to 200 mcg daily.

Customer:

why do you think taking the armour 30mg defintly is resulting in more fatigue. and should i be taking those "adrenal" supports ashwagandha and tyrosine.

mysticdoc :

armour also has T3 besides levothyroxine.

Customer:

is synthroid likely to be a better bet than armour

mysticdoc :

Some people think, t3 supplementation may actually make levothyroxine less effective.

mysticdoc :

And this also masks the true thyroid insufficiency.

mysticdoc :

That is why armour is not god for everyone.

mysticdoc :

synthroid is a better choice and selenium

Customer:

i know my mood is better on thyroid medicine. i think i will ask the md to switch back to synhtroid was on that at first.

mysticdoc :

ashwagandha and tyrosine are alternative medications --they will may be helpful with adrenal fatigue which is however scientifically not proven.

mysticdoc :

yes that will be appropriate

Customer:

what do you think of the ideaof holistic medicine that adrenals need support for thyroid to work best

Customer:

thanks a lot will switch out of armour to synthroid

mysticdoc :

holistic medicine works to some extent.

mysticdoc :

But the scientific proof is lacking.

mysticdoc :

Hence, the wellbeing is based on individual experiences.

Customer:

ok much appreciation, no doubt the armour, maybe t3 is causing this excessive nervous, sweating, etc.again. thank you.
